Reviews
For context, I previously had an issue where I was overcharged. When I noticed it at home, I called the restaurant and spoke with the same cashier. She checked the receipt, acknowledged the mistake, and told me I could either come back for the difference or apply it to my next order. I chose to apply it because I genuinely enjoy their food — especially the jalapeño & cheese pupusas and the shrimp ceviche — and continued to come back.
Unfortunately, this visit made me regret that decision.
I arrived around 5:50 PM and ordered my usual: shrimp ceviche with no tomato and no avocado and a Jamacia hibiscus tea. My boyfriend chose margarita rice with chicken & shrimp and chips. The order was rung up correctly and I was told the wait would be 30 minutes.
Around 6:20 PM, my order was done. While checking it, I noticed the margarita rice had no queso cheese. The cashier said, “It might be at the bottom — I’ll add a little more.” When I checked the ceviche, it had tomato and avocado. As soon as I opened the container, both cashiers repeatedly said, “No avocado, no tomato,” while calling back to the kitchen. I was told it would take another 20 minutes to remake.
By this time, the restaurant had filled up and my food was already getting cold.
Around 6:40 PM, I was called back up and given another ceviche. When I opened it, I saw an unfamiliar meat and asked what it was. The cashier said, “Oh, it’s fish.” I replied, “That’s not what I asked for.” She responded, “You don’t want to try it?” I said, “No, that’s not what I ordered.”
She then checked the register and told me, “Next time when you order, say camaron tostada.” I explained, “I order this the same way every time I come here,” “shrimp ceviche no avocado and no tomatoes” and even pulled up a picture of one of my previous orders.
She offered to remake it again and said it would take 5–10 more minutes, but by then I had been there nearly an hour. I told her, “No, that’s fine. I’ve been here since 5:50 and I’m not waiting again when it’s been made incorrectly twice. I’d like my money back.”
I paid with Apple Pay, but when I requested a refund, I was told it could only be done in cash. With people waiting behind me and the cashier struggling with the register, I eventually accepted cash and was given $16.45 back on a $39.78 total — despite being charged tax and a card convenience fee.
When I got home, the remaining food was still disappointing:
• Very little shrimp in the margarita rice
• Chicken with large fatty pieces that were hard to chew
• And cubed potatoes in the margarita rice, which is not listed on the menu
I essentially paid $23.33 for rice, a drink, and chips. That potato was honestly the final straw. I came in expecting the same quality and care I’ve experienced in the past and left frustrated, hungry, and feeling shorted on both service and value.
I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but after repeated mistakes, long wait times, poor communication, and an incomplete refund — combined with a prior overcharge — I felt it was necessary. I hope management takes this seriously, because I truly do enjoy this restaurant when things are done correctly.
Note: we tend to visit there earlier in the afternoon though.
