My first visit to Al Dente, so here’s a fresh look without rose-tinted glasses.
A truly cosy spot: small, authentic and somehow managing to find space where you least expect it (yes, even in the passageway -but who cares?).
It’s a little slice of Italy tucked into Newcastle, beloved by locals – Italians and Geordies alike – with chatter and easy smiles filling the room.
The staff are a pleasure – sarcasm slips over just enough to charm. A great place to practice yours too, ha, ha
As for the food – generous doesn’t quite cover it. Plates arrive as if from an Italian nonna convinced you haven’t eaten a proper meal in weeks. Hearty, authentic and full of flavour.
I’ll be back – to taste more and to enjoy once again that friendly atmosphere that makes this little restaurant feel much larger than its walls

Good Italian food made with good quality ingredients. Menu is a little small but better this than a large poor menu. Service was fast and the only real “complaint” was not being shown the specials menu. Quite a small venue so nice for couples but maybe not for larger groups.

Went on spec with daughter for lunch (my turn to choose venue) met by a nice young lad who promptly seated us ( there’s about 8 – 10 tables inside of various sizes, they can split or join depending on your party size, I would suggest booking if there is a few of you, they also have a few tables outside if the weather allows )
Quite a lot to the menu so we ordered drinks and took our time. The food was piping hot and lovely, served with a smile, I had lasagna and daughter had the Linguine Con Polpette, we shared the focaccia. Daughter also ordered the house tiramisu to take away as we were close to food comas
Would like to give a shout out to the young lad front of house, nice chatting with him and he made us laugh ( reminded us of my grandson Leon at one point, you got 5 the stars )
We will definitely return

You can taste the passion in every bite. The chef-owner often visits the dining room, and his enthusiasm is infectious. The menu changes slightly with the seasons, showcasing the best local produce through an Italian lens. We had a fresh pea and mint gnocchi that tasted like spring. This isn’t just a restaurant; it’s someone’s heart on a plate

We booked a table for last night and we got one so i was happy. The service was impecable the waitress was attentive the staff were lovely. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The only down side was being sat next to people at the back i felt like i didnt have much privacy as i was so close to the other diners so i could pretty much hear their conversations amd it was a bit too close. I would have preferred a seperate dining table. Next time i will request this. For the food i had seafood linguine and the meatballs for starter and the flavours were very bold and it was perfectly cooked. The meatballs were soft and not dry and chewy the sauce was delicious tomato. My pasta was incredible the sauce was so natural yet tasted deeply of seafood i loved it. Pasta was cooked al beautifully. The prawns were huge an perfectly cooked. I just didnt like taking the shell off it was a bit messy. They did give me little wipe to freshen up so it wasnt like i was left with dirty hands. Dessert i had the lemon torte and it was sublime im not a dessert person but this looked amazing tasted so good the pastry was cooked brilliantly and the lemon inside was soft creamy and not too sweet. I thouroughly enjoyed my evening and i will be back this month to enjoy with my friends. I will take some photos on my next one.
