* took the photo after I had eaten half the burrito fajita (sorry it smelled amazing & I forgot to get a photo before scarfing down half of it)
2) The food is pretty good. Things could be spicier, but it’s good.
3) The salsa is bland, watery, and has an odd aftertaste.
4) The drinks are truly awful. Their “margarita” uses a prepackaged “margarita” mix from a large jug reminiscent of industrial solvents. You can quite literally taste the corn syrup in their “margarita.” Margaritas are not supposed to be yellow. If you have never had a real margarita before, then it’s tolerable, but when you know how they’re supposed to taste, it’s genuinely repulsive.
4.a) No additive-free tequila is available, only high profile celebrity-endorsed brands.
5) Prices are too high. $15+ for three tiny street tacos is not worth it, although the tacos themselves were quite good. Charging $10+ for tequila and corn syrup with citric acid is highway robbery.
Overall, this is definitely one of the Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been to. I don’t regret coming necessarily—the food, ambience, and service were all great—but this is not a place I’d ever see myself returning to.
Long: Food was great. Highly recommend trying the street corn.
Service & Atmosphere – We were seated without menus, given chips, salsa, our drink order was taken and our chips refilled (We didn’t really need the extra basket of chips but it was nice.) Our server came to take our order and we had yet to see a menu.
Once we were ready, she had some trouble knowing what dishes got a side and what the side options were. My husband wanted rice and beans and she argued that he couldn’t have both until we showed her on the menu that the side was “rice and beans”.
So far this could all be attributed to it being a new restaurant. However, the next issue occurred with our check.
Our check with all food and drinks added up to around $56. The check we were given was for $72. When we asked, we were told it was because of tax. That’s about $16 in tax. Which is upwards of about 25%. Our server was never able to give an explanation, just that they hit the tax button and that’s the total.
Our best guess is that it’s tax AND tip. If that’s the case, it was not posted somewhere that we could see and our server seemed unaware of it as she kept apologizing and telling us we didn’t need to leave her a tip because she couldn’t explain the price difference.
I can’t decide if we will come back. I’m interested in knowing if anyone else has had the same issue with their check.
And for management…, there was windex sitting on the bar at the end, probably should have that put away.
