I went to Abuelo’s for lunch to celebrate my birthday with my kids. It was not busy. Our table of six was seated immediately. Lots of empty tables. However, we waited 15 minutes just to get our drinks after we ordered them-and it was just water. Then we waited just under an hour for our food after we ordered. We’d been there an hour and a half by this time and I had to leave for an appointment. I got a take home box, put my piping hot food in it, and rushed out the door. My kids stayed and ate. Everyone liked their food but my birthday lunch with my kids was ruined. An hour and a half for lunch when the restaurant isn’t busy at all should be plenty of time to order and eat.

I’m visiting Tulsa from Texas and I was hesitant to try Mexican food up here. Being so close to the boarder I have pretty high standards on this cuisine. Happy to report the food was delicious, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, our server, Mike, was attentive but not overbearing and the experience was quite pleasant. The wife and I ordered chips and queso, two enchilada plates and standard drinks (no alcohol). We were in and out in 30 min.

Do not ever order a “double” alcoholic drink here. They will charge you for two full drinks. Never have I paid for two separate drinks when ordering a double. Our waitress was amazing and did an outstanding job. I wish I could remember her name. She was amazing. But the manager here is outrageous charging people $18 for one double vodka soda. This is unheard of. We will never come back to this establishment. I can see now why the restaurant was practically empty on a Saturday night.

Steak fajita salad was really tasty and filling. But my steak had an inedible rubbery skin on one side and a table knife wouldn’t cut it. Sad. Great waitress, fresh tea, upscale atmosphere.

Delicious food, beautiful ambiance, and wonderful staff. Would have been 5 stars but the silverware is WAY too large. No smaller cutlery available – not even for children. It felt like I was eating my meal with a pitchfork, a sword, and a shovel instead of a fork, spoon, and knife.

The food at Abuelo’s never disappoints. There have been times at this location that service has been a problem, but that problem seems to have been fixed. There was a bit of a low staff situation and our most recent stay causing a short wait despite numerous tables open simply because of staffing. It’s always worth the wait, however, because the food is so excellent. This is one of our favorites Mexican places to eat.

Staff was super friendly and thankfully I went when it wasn’t too busy so it was relaxing. We got the Fajita tacos and the Durango and both were pretty good! The cheesecake was also great.
