The food is so so good! Warming and delicious. Such a lovely spices and flavors. Walk into a relaxing atmosphere with authentic Nepali cuisine. It felt like I was home enjoying a meal my parents cooked for me as a kid. The lamb just falls apart and is a must order!

The restaurant was decorated very nicely — it really gave a cozy, homelike Nepali vibe. It wasn’t fancy, but it looked just perfect for an authentic Nepali setting.
However, the food was quite pricey. I paid $20 for eight pieces of momo, which didn’t have the typical Nepali seasoning; they tasted more like Tibetan dumplings. I also tried the curry and rice, but they were pretty bland and lacked the traditional Nepali flavors I was expecting.
While the food did seem healthy, it didn’t truly capture the authentic taste of Nepal. Even one of Nepal’s most popular street foods, chow mein, wasn’t on the menu. As much as the place looked Nepali, the food itself didn’t feel like home at all.
Overall, I’d rate this restaurant 2 out of 5.

Had heard good things about this place online and decided to finally stop in. I ordered the chicken sikar with dal. Everything was great. I’ve rarely eaten Nepalese food before but was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth a visit.

This was my first time eating Nepalese food and I’m in love! This is a really small restaurant so I’d get there early if you don’t have a reservation. Everything was so flavorful and delicious.

It’s a small intimate restaurant so if know if you’re coming during busy hours with a large crowd, this may not be right spot. BUT for a small lunch with your girlfriends or a quiet lunch alone, this is perfect! Many vegetarian options with a few meat dishes. The food is very flavorful! My favorites dishes are the appetizer platter with samosas, dal, naan and momos (dumplings) or one of the daily curries. Do yourself the favor a try something new at this place! You won’t regret it!

This restaurant came recommended, and I am so glad I took the recommendation. My first time actually trying Nepali food and I am already looking forward to the next. I ordered the chicken sikar, which was so flavorful with just a bit of nicely warming spice. The dal that it came with was superb, as was the tarkari (seasoned vegetables?) that came with it – looks like this offering changes but mine was the “cauli” and it was excellent. A delicious fresh meal for a reasonable price in the perfect casual atmosphere. I may just be back before the trip ends.

Our favorite spot in Madison! Himal Chuli is a warm respite against the winter chill. Every dish is packed with flavor and easy on the stomach. The meals are diverse and they have different side specials often. I highly recommend giving it a try!

While walking down State Street, came across this place. As the outside seating area was busy we decided to give it a try. I am not sure if all the dishes were authentic but they did have flavor. However, we felt that both the veggie dishes tasted somewhat similar. The dishes were definitely fresh. Enjoyed the soup the most. If you like spicy, try their hot sauce, it was fantastic. It is hot so be careful. Our server was attentive and she was very friendly. The food was served without any delays. Overall experience was average.
