Staff prioritized in-person orders while online orders kept falling further behind, and when I asked if they could try to catch up on online orders I was told aggressively, “You can either wait 30 minutes, or you can wait 30 minutes.” A little communication and courtesy would have gone a long way.
Anyway, the first thing I heard when I entered the establishment was, “you did a really good job restocking the chips.” A young woman whose name I learned is Amelia was complimenting a young man whose name I learned is Aiden. I looked at the shelf where the chips had been restocked and it was so neat and straight and perfectly spaced that I excitedly exclaimed, “the chips DO look really good! It really pleases my OCD.” Amelia heard and giggled (maybe) and said something to the extent of, “that’s why I’m good at my job I think,” or something else… honestly I didn’t quite hear what she said and I was too hungry and tired at that point in the night to be a polite human being and ask her to repeat herself. Sorry, Amelia. :/
But MY LORD did that all change when I bit into the perfectly-sauced sautéed chicken and onion and green pepper GIANT buffalo chicken sub for two with lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, salt and pepper… and I don’t know, MAGIC?! I was instantly transported to a better mood. The flavor and temperature was just perfection. The sauce level alone?! I came to learn the buffalo chicken sub happens to be Amelia’s sub of expertise, and also the sub her favorite aunt orders [sorry other aunties 😉 ] (I don’t know why I used brackets outside of the closed parenthesis used in a winky face smile, but hopefully you’ll excuse it, as it felt right in the moment.
I was out pouring with delight to Amelia about this God-tier sandwich she had crafted for my hungry moody husband and me. I told her the truth, which was that this sandwich was making me feel high (in a good way), and after a few bites I had entered a state of nirvana. This sub was that perfect. And I was already excited by the state of the chip shelf. Little did I know that would be the least of my experience tonight, although I will say it elevated it too, so shout out Aiden.
But honestly, aside from that one epic toasty grilled turkey bacon and American cheese sandwich with banana peppers, tomatoes, and lettuce with a little mayo and just a dab of mustard that my mom made for lunch on a test day in high school (and even a couple times while I was in my hometown masters program that I didn’t complete and instead went for a doctorate later which I did complete), that was the best damn sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. And SINCE you bring up the fact that I’ve graduated, allow me to say, “you can trust me. I’m a doctor.”
If you’ve read this far, I applaud you . You have a greater attention span than most. For Amelia and Aiden’s sake I hope upper management as well as those two employees get a chance to read this (and hopefully they are also afforded an extra break as this message is long enough to take 2 to 3 business days to read).
By the way, I should be gatekeeping this little tip that Amelia gave me, but I’m going to rock your world with it instead: order the chicken bacon ranch with the onion and green peppers grilled with the chicken and ask for buffalo sauce to be added to your sandwich. That is my next order at this particular Jersey Mike’s, ESPECIALLY if I can confirm Amelia is working that day. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but truthfully, so worth it to get such an exceptional sandwich and honestly a pretty fun experience. For sure 10 out of 10. I pray every sandwich goddess has the skills and possibly OCD like my new favorite person, Amelia does. What a queen. Give her a raise, or a bonus or something because she is getting y’all repeat customers with her epic abilities. A true magician blessed me with a better night tonight through a sub sandwich, and now I’m on the treadmill verbally typing this review because I got the ENERGY I needed from this Jersey Mike’s buffalo chicken giant sub split by two (I even had about half of my half left over, so I get to enjoy it AGAIN. Yes!) Anyway, thanks to those of you who made it to the end.
Bottom line, for your own good, please visit.
The one guy working was clearly overwhelmed and trying to juggle too much at once. He asked me to wait to tell him my toppings, but then wrapped up my sandwiches without even asking me what I wanted. I left disappointed, not just because of the mistake, but because the whole experience took way too long and felt unorganized.
I understand things can get busy, but customers shouldn’t have to wait that long when there are other employees available to help.
