After having come across multiple reviews about this place, I decided to drop in on a Friday for lunch. We all were seated promptly and started off our orders with soup and appetisers — murungai keerai soup, goat paya soup, idli, cheppankizhangu (taro fritters) and the vanjaram podi varuval (king fish fry). Both the soups were good and they were served in huge bowls (two people can share easily), the taro fritters were crispy and were perfectly marinated to snack on.

The idli with the sambhar and chutneys were really good. However, the king fish was a massive disappointment. Yes, the portions were generous (they give 2 pieces of fish) but the taste was dismal. I couldn’t taste any special masala or seasoning in the marinade except a lot of chilli powder and turmeric.

For entrees, we had ordered, kothu parotta, pottalam parotha and the goat dum biriyani. I wanted to try their thalappakatti biriyani but it’s only available on weekends. The pottalam parotta tasted okay and the biriyani was decent as well — nothing extraordinary about either item. We decided to end this with jigarthanda and were sorta let down by that too. The jigarthanda was nothing close to being authentic nor did it taste good.

All in all, for all the reviews about this place, my experience was a letdown mostly because the food was just average and not authentic as it claims to be. Also, the prices are really high for everything on the menu but the dishes don’t live up to the rates or taste!

A Fantastic Find with Incredible Flavor. We were thoroughly impressed with our experience at Chennai Hoppers. Despite it being a full house, the wait was brief, and we were rewarded with pleasant, efficient service and a cozy atmosphere perfect for our family gathering.
The extensive menu made choosing a delight. Our standout dishes included:
• Dum Goat Biryani (5/5): Perfectly cooked goat and basmati rice with incredible texture and flavor.
• Kozhi 65 (5/5): Tender chicken in a generous portion that could easily be a meal itself.
• 70mm Family Dosa (5/5): A crispy lentil crepe served with flavorful sambhar and chutney.
• Uthiri Onion Pakoda (4/5): A very generous portion of onion fritters; our only note is that we’d prefer them a bit crispier.

With its great prices, no hidden fees, and exceptional food, Chennai Hoppers is a restaurant we highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

This is a tiny restaurant with well done interiors. Made a reservation 45 min prior on a Sunday prior arrival and was seated right away. This place was full in no time. We ordered lamb Sukka, chicken kuttu parotta, Ambur biryani, dosa and mango lassi. Food was good quality, tasty and amazing aroma. Very authentic Chettinad food. Highly recommended.

The 70 CM dosa was superb and a show stopper but the condiments that go with it need to be more flavorful. This too bad since Dosa does not have flavor and it gets it from the condiments.

I thank the management for giving a surprise birthday cake. Quite a class and they played a music with the name of the birthday girl in it. Very cute.

The menu is so long that the chef has to cut corners, with less flavor in some and more in others. It might be a good idea to cut down the range of food offered or have the waiters explain in more detail the diverse menu.

The latter works best perhaps when it is not crowded but still there are still some food items that are not as tasty as they should have been.

The food was extremely delicious, I loved everything. I recommend it if you want Indian food, some of the best buttered chicken and naan I have had. Lamb stew was something new I tried and it was amazing. Everything was clean and organized. Service was great.

The service is outstanding and the food is out of this world delicious! Shrishna was my server but she also greeted as I came in, I could see she felt bad to tell me I had a 30 minute wait. But I decided to wait in-spite of being tired and I’ll tell you it was worth my while! The manager ,Raj offered me a chair which was so kind.
My whole experience just got better and better as each course I ordered came it out one was as amazing as the next. This is the best meal I’ve had in a very long time, maybe ever!
Thank you to Raj and his team for making my day!

It has been our favorite Indian restaurant from when it opened. But this last visit blew my mind. The Madurai goat pepper dish is the most flavorful goat I have ever had. Madras 65 biryani is really good too. Owner recommended one type of bread to go with the goat dish. I will surely return to try this combination.
