The food here its the most authentic Dominican style food I have had in Orlando. The taste the seasoning is on point. The price is reasonable. I think its an underrated spot that gets over looked. But if you are wanting to have true Dominican food this place is a no brainer.

I had a great time dining here. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The service was just as impressive: friendly, attentive, and fast without feeling rushed. From the moment we walked in, everything felt welcoming. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this spot to others!

Picalonga Mix – Orlando, FL: Latin Flavor Explosion… and a Scented Ambush

This spot? It was different. Like, teleport-you-to-a-side-street-in-Santo-Domingo different . If you’re looking for authentic Latin street food vibes, Picalonga Mix delivers that hard. We ordered…well, honestly I don’t even know what all we got —but check the pics for the full food lineup.

We had:
• Crispy empanadas that crunched like a snack commercial
• Deep-fried meat cones (yeah, I said cones) with shredded chicken and ground beef inside
• Plátanos maduros that were sweet and caramelized on the outside, like plantain candy
• Fried chicken that was tasty… but kind of like playing bone-in bingo
• Fries, rice, beans, and slaw to round it all out like a Caribbean sampler platter ️

The flavor? Fantastic. The food? Bold. The experience? Fun. We all enjoyed it and left full and happy.

BUT THEN CAME THE SMELL.

Y’all. This restaurant is under full assault from air fresheners. Not just one. Not two. Like, an army of scent bombs hidden in every corner like some kind of olfactory ambush. They had pink deodorizer cakes (the kind you’d see in a janitor’s dream or a nightmare?) sitting around everywhere. One was literally right next to my wife’s head. She moved it. I nearly lost my sense of smell. We started wondering… what exactly are they trying to cover up?

Still, if you can survive the sensory battle between garlic and Glade, the food is worth trying. Super authentic. Super flavorful. Just bring nose plugs or dine al fresco.

Also… they added an 18% tip to the bill for groups of 4 or more and didn’t tell me anything about it. I added my 20% tip onto the top of that… I asked around Orlando at other restaurants and they said this is the tip. No additional tip needed. I actually asked our server about it after I had paid and she said that was not the case. I think she mislead me about what the 18% was. She said you typically still tip on top of that.

Would I go back? Maybe. For the food, yes. For the mystery scent warfare? I might need backup. ️‍♂️ and pay attention to the bill.

The service and atmosphere here is amazing. The Tres golpes tastes so authentic and delicious, I know my people was back there in that kitchen! Rellenos de papa was fried to perfection , and the flavor of the mofongo with shrimp was amazing!! Definitely coming back.

The food was awesome. The flank steak was done as requested and was delicious. I especially enjoyed the empanada. We were charged $3 each for water which is something we were not expecting or used to as we normally just get tap water which is free. We do not mind paying for drinks but would have ordered an actual drink rather than pay for water. Regardless, would definitely come back again if for nothing else to get that empanada again!

I’m writing this because I don’t appreciate dishonesty. The check came to my table beside a machine with prompts to tip from 18 to 25%. I found the amount a little off, so I looked at the check and they already included an 18% service charge to my check (table of 4). I normally tip more than that, but they’ve already put the amount, so I skipped the tip screen on the machine. The amount in the check was about 162 and change, so I paid, and printed the receipt, as it showed 169, and I wanted to see the reason for the difference. Then I saw an item saying non-cash adjustment. I asked about it, and they said it was because I paid with a credit card. Nobody said anything about the gratuity being already included or the credit card charge at any time. I imagine they just let you double tip, as the machine does show a minimum of another 18% on top of what’s already charged. It was a decent place, decent food. I always like to go to local places to eat, but I regret going to this one.

I came in town for a week for a disney trip and I needed lunch to bring because food at the park is way over priced. This is a wonderful place.. I will definitely will be going back until I leave Orlando.. will have to try the dining in experience.. Great food that taste delicious and at affordable price.
Update 11/24. Had the pleasure to dine in. The food was spectacular. I had the shrimp mofongo with pork belly inside so delicious. My daughter had chicken Alfredo such a big portion had to take some for take way. The tostones with their sauce is out of this world.. I loved their soursop and tamarind juice that are made by the restaurant refreshing and delicious. I will continue to come back until my last day in Orlando.

I recently visited Picalonga Mix restaurant and, unfortunately, was not blown away. When we were seated, the table hadn’t been cleaned properly, and my arm got dirty and sticky from whatever was left on it. Traveling from NYC to check out the hype, we had high expectations.

We ordered several items from the menu. Our favorite was the Picadera, which was very tasty. The frosted glass and super cold beers were a hit with both me and my husband. However, the entrees were mediocre. I ordered the Chofan rice and left the whole thing untouched. My husband ordered the churrasco well done, but it was bloody. After asking the waiter to cook it longer, it came back the same, so my husband didn’t bother eating the rest. The food did not taste authentically Dominican to us.

On a positive note, the customer service was superb.

Overall, the restaurant’s fritura is extremely good, but the entrees fell short. Additionally, considering it’s a hole-in-the-wall restaurant located in a mall, we found it a bit overpriced.
