We started with an appetizer of onion straws. They were good. We asked for some extra ranch for dipping them in and it was runny and tasteless. We were charged extra for the ranch, that’s understandable, but it would have been nice to have been told when we ordered it. We ordered the New Oleans pasta and a Philly cheesesteak (but with chicken). The pasta was ok, it was supposed to be spicy but it was just overly seasoned with black pepper. The bread stick with it was hard. The cheesesteak had no visible cheese on it and the hoagie bun was a dry, stale hotdog bun. The waiter asked if I would like something else so I ordered the fish and chips. I wish I hadn’t! The fish was very greasy, not just the batter coating it, but the actual fish too. The chips were hot though. The best thing about the fish and chips was the tartar sauce.
This is a very nice place to eat at! The building seemed to be a train station back in the day, so the layout is interesting and spacious. They have displays that show their drink options on giant chalkboard boards that have neat chalk art on it throughout the restaurant. The server we had was wonderful and really on top of it, very friendly. The food was great, and excellently cooked. The steak was very tender, pork was perfectly cooked, the club sandwich was delicious, and the catfish was excellent! The coleslaw I had was the perfect amount of tangy and flavor, and the fries were very nice (crinkled cut)! The cheese cake we got is perfect for sharing. The slice is quite large, and nice and dense. You do have the option of a chocolate or a caramel drizzle on top of it, too!
I tried the Kentucky Hot Brown and it was wow good! My wife got the Granny Smith and really liked it. We plan to come back. Seems to be very popular and even though it was busy our food came out so fast it could have been fast food. Definitely recommend!
The food definitely carried the experience, because the service fell a bit short. Our group of 12 was squeezed into a table meant for eight, and the overall energy from the staff felt low. Jose did a good job taking care of us, but in the service industry, a more genuine and engaging personality goes a long way. Maybe it was an off day or our group size felt intimidating, but there’s definitely room for improvement.
All in all, dinner was excellent from a food perspective, and the kitchen truly delivered!!
~Cheers
I enjoyed myself very much and we will return soon.
My only complaint was the handicapped accessibility. The handicapped parking spaces are on one side of the building, but the ramp to get to the front door is all the way on the other. That’s a lot of walking for people with mobility limitations who aren’t wheelchair users.
