Open seven days a week, The Capital Grille is best known for our expertly prepared steaks, which are dry aged in house for 18 to 24 days and then hand-cut by our restaurant’s on-premise butcher. He was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made excellent recommendations that enhanced our meal. When we arrived at the valet parking lot, the two attendants were very rude and told us we couldn’t park there because the restaurant was closed. We explained that we had reservations, and they reluctantly let us in but not before sighing, complaining, and saying to each other that it was “fine as long as we leave a tip.” That was incredibly unprofessional. I brushed it off, assuming it was just valet and that the experience inside would be better. Unfortunately, it only got worse.
After being seated, our waiter greeted us by sighing and immediately telling us how long his night had been and how tired he was. He then rushed us to order entrees before we had even had a chance to properly look at the menu or order drinks. Then we overheard him telling the table next to us that he was supposed to go home but had been “stuck” with our table.
Having experience in the service industry myself, it was clear he was trying to rush us so we would finish around the same time as his other tables, which were already wrapping up, so he wouldn’t have to wait on us as his last table. Before we received our food, he informed us that another server would be finishing our dining experience. Shortly after the new server introduced himself, our food arrived. The original waiter then returned and attempted to close out our tab even though we hadn’t taken a single bite yet.
Thankfully, Stanley, our new server, was excellent and handled the remainder of our evening very professionally. He was attentive and made the best of an unfortunate situation.
We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but after starting our experience the way we did, we won’t be returning. I felt rushed and anxious the whole night. The prices simply do not match the level of service we received.
