Calm environment. Went on a weekday evening. It was only us and one other family. Nice people. Fine service and food. May be the dish I tried, didn’t felt special. I would give it 80%. I came here to try their food since they have good reviews. May be I have to try a different dish next time.

Went out to dine with my family in search of good butter chicken and rumali roti—and wow, what a flavor explosion!
We ordered Ramneek’s Butter Chicken (recommended by @ramfoodguy), and it was hands down one of the best I’ve had. I’ve tried butter chicken at many restaurants where it’s usually too sweet and overly creamy, but Masala Tree nailed the balance perfectly—rich, flavorful, and authentic.
We also ordered Amritsari Fish, Tandoori Chicken (Half), and Goat Sukha, and not a single dish disappointed us. Every item was full of flavor and cooked to perfection.
The biggest surprise? My 3-year-old, who is a very fussy eater, absolutely loved the food too ❤️
A special shout-out to Pinky, who was incredibly welcoming and made us feel comfortable throughout our visit. Excellent food, warm service, and a great family dining experience. Highly recommend Masala Tree—we’ll definitely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Amazing place to eat our server Pinky was really nice and she recommended us the best things. Dessert a bit too sweet for our liking but other than that, really great food. Portions very decent as well.

We had Tandoori Chicken, Rumali Roti, Chicken Momos (steam momos took time so we had fried) and non veg soup. Food was fantastic! Absolutely loved the quality. The rumali rotis were amazing so were the chutneys and tandoori chicken. The crust for chicken momos was too thick so it felt like a samosa’s crust. Rest everything was good!

If you are looking for proper Indian food that’s loaded with spices and not toned down for a North American palate, this is the restaurant you’ve been searching for. I was recommended to me by a friend who learned of it from Ramneek Singh, who scoured the city for the best butter chicken and crowned this one. We ordered a bunch of items, and I quickly understood why this restaurant received such a distinction. The butter chicken was rich and savory, but that’s as far as the similarities go between that and regular butter chicken because this one was an explosion of spices unlike any other.
The paneer pakora was, by far, the best pakora I have ever had, with a light crispy shell full of flavor from spices and a high quality, fluffy paneer inside.
The naan bread was the perfect thickness, with a pillowy exterior and a crisp crunch from the tandoor.
The other standout was the pav bhaji, a rich vegetable stew laced with butter and served with a dinner rolls grilled in more butter that soaked up all the gravy from the dish. It’s not a staple that’s found at all Indian restaurants here, which I appreciated as it helped showcase the authenticity of the place.
I could go on and on about this place but you really have to come here yourself to experience the quality of the food.
I should note that there were several Indian families eating here, which points to the outstanding quality of the food.
Both our waiters, Jaspreet and Happy, were immensely attentive and checked on us several times throughout our meals. Happy in particular wanted to ensure everything was perfect and you could tell he really cares about the quality of the food and the diner’s experience.
This is definitely a hidden gem in Edmonton that’s worth the drive out no matter where you’re coming from.

Restaurant Review: Masala Tree Indian Kitchen – Edmonton, AB
Visited: April 13, 2025

We went to Masala Tree Indian Kitchen for dinner and had a truly delightful experience. From the moment we stepped in, we were warmly greeted by the male host who promptly guided us to our table. Despite the restaurant being quite busy at the time, the entire staff was serving with cheerful smiles and positive energy.

The ambiance of the restaurant was calm and inviting, with tasteful décor that added to the peaceful dining atmosphere.

For our dinner, we ordered Chili Chicken, Hakka Noodles, Amritsari Fish, and Karak Chai. The Amritsari Fish was the absolute star of the night – perfectly crisp on the outside and incredibly soft and flavorful inside. The Chili Chicken was another standout, cooked with just the right balance of spices and packed with flavor. The Hakka Noodles were also satisfying, with a nice texture and taste. Portion sizes were generous – easily enough for two people per dish.

A special mention goes to Ms. Pinky, the Kitchen Manager, who impressed us with her enthusiasm and knowledge. She kindly took the time to talk to us about the variety of cuisines the restaurant offers and the thought behind each dish.

We left completely satisfied and will definitely return the next time we’re in Edmonton.
Five stars all the way!

The biryani was full of flavor and the chole had the perfect spice. The bhature were soft and fluffy, just how they should be. Also, Mr Singh at the front desk was so welcoming and kind—it really made the experience even better. Highly recommend this place for tasty Indian food and warm hospitality!
