Reviews
When we arrived, our hostess took us to a nice, comfy booth next to a curtain-covered window. As we settled in, we couldn’t help but notice the adorable embroidered doily under the glass on our tabletop and a bread basket that was full of thick, individually-wrapped slices of fresh bread set alongside a small bowl of foil-wrapped butter pats.
The menu at the Rhapsody has plenty of options, not just Hungarian food. For example, they serve Julienne salads, Club sandwiches, burgers, and Fettuccine Alfredo! Of course, I was there to try the Hungarian classics. I started with a cup of their chicken soup. It’s a flavorful chicken broth, loaded with oodles of skinny noodles and little bits of carrots. It was really tasty.
I also ordered their Korozott for an appetizer. It came to the table after my soup, but I didn’t mind because it was so delicious! The Korozott is a small, savory cheeseball that’s served with a side of Ritz crackers. Yep. Ritz. Everything tastes better on a Ritz. LOL. I really liked the flavor of the cheese and the portion size was perfect.
My entree came with a salad. It was a nice blend of cold lettuces, carrot, red onion and cucumber. It was served on a chilled glass plate with a side of ranch. The ranch was delicious.
The entree I chose was the Hungarian Combination Plate. It came with a small side of chicken paprikas. The creamy sauce smothered a small piece of stewed chicken breast and the best little dumplings the world has ever known! The dumplings were mild in flavor with the perfect texture! Not too soft, not too chewy! DELICIOUS!
The plate also came with a stuffed cabbage roll and a side of homemade mashed potatoes. The cabbage roll filling was meaty, soft and flavorful. The meat filling was bursting out of the cabbage wrapper. The cabbage roll was not cooked in tomato sauce but it didn’t matter! The flavor was spot-on! One of the best cabbage rolls I’ve had.
I’m not done! There was also a breaded pork chop served with the Combination Plate. The pork chop was meaty with a minimal amount of fat. It was covered in a thin layer of perfectly fried bread crumbs. Scrumptious! Hidden under the chop was a small serving of sauteed veggies. This platter was delicious. And a real bargain too! All that food on the Combination plate, plus bread and butter and a side salad for less than 20 bucks! And the portions were ample enough to take some home for a second meal.
I also tried several of my friend’s items. The noodles and cabbage were soft and delicate! Top-notch. The Hungarian Goulash was rich and meaty. The meat was so tender, you could shred it with the side of your fork. The broth (gravy) was a dark, brown and LOADED with flavor. The presentation was notable as well.
We rarely order dessert but the waitress brought out the dessert tray and we were tempted by the Kreme. It’s a cream-filled pastry. The pastry layers were delicate and flaky and the filling was light, fluffy and wonderfully flavored. It wasn’t too sweet. It was decadent!
I appreciated the laid-back atmosphere of this restaurant. I was pleased with the timing of the meal as well. Rather than dump everything on the table at once, our food came out of the kitchen in several courses so we didn’t feel rushed as we ate. When I visit next time, I want to order an entire plate of paprikas. (But I won’t.) I’ll get the Hungarian Combination Plate again and enjoy all the different flavors of Hungary! If you are anywhere nearby, check it out!
