We had a Yummy Korean BBQ on Maui years ago which turned into a Pearl’s Korean BBQ, so I was curious to see how similar or different they are.

ATMOSPHERE:
They’re part of the beehive AKA the Makai Market Food Court at Ala Moana Center. Seating is indoor communal. They’re so busy they have dual ordering lines.

MENU:
Korean BBQ in a variety of proteins.

FOOD:
BBQ Chicken
They gave 3 boneless/skinless thighs that were flavorful, moist and grilled nicely with a nice char here and there. As for the banchan or sides, the bean sprouts had green onions and carrots mixed in which was odd. The mayo potatoes were comparable. But, they have something Pearl’s doesn’t (on Maui, anyway) which is Korean spinach, and it was good. The portion size between the two businesses are comparable, meaning generous!

SERVICE:
Food is made to order and took about a quick 5 minutes. Ladies at the counter were very friendly.

OVERALL:
I guess it’s a tie.

Been eating Yummy’s since the late 80’s. Always consistent and always delicious. It has gotten a little pricey, but what hasn’t! My go to is the mini Meat Jun w/ two sides. Thinly sliced bulgogi cooked in an egg coating. Tender and great with either the gochujang or soy sauce. (For price comparison, it costs about the same a a chili frank plate from Zippy’s).

I heard it was the most famous Korean restaurant in Hawaii. But as a Korean, I was disappointed. soft bean curd jjigae was simply the worst. They taste similar on average to the many ribs in Hawaii. I would rather recommend Mujigae Korean Grill in the parking lot of Waikele Premium Outlets.

I went there Saturday
I called when i got home because my meat (the whole meat) tasted like GAS even my rice. The lady said sometimes it taste like that since they use gas stove. I told her this one taste like literally GAS. She asked for my number so that her manager can call me back but it never happen. I been waiting until now for their call.
Such a bad experience especially i got the food for my kids. I aint feeding my kids if the food taste like fricken GAS! The taste of gas lasted an hour or so in my mouth! ITS REALLY BAD!

I have no idea why this restaurant has a 3.8-star rating. Honestly, their Korean chicken BBQ has been the best meal of my stay on the Big Island. After spending a few days here and trying several places, this was the only food establishment where I finally had a truly decent and satisfying meal. I’ve even eaten at some of the most iconic restaurants on the island, and they honestly can’t come close in terms of flavor and overall experience.

The chicken was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and comforting in a way that really stood out after a string of underwhelming meals elsewhere. At this point, the only place that might even come close for me is Marugame Udon — and that’s saying something. This spot definitely deserves a much higher rating.

One of my favorite places to eat in Hawaii. Generous portions (maybe too generous). Side dishes are absolutely the best. I had the chicken plate this time and it was slightly over marinated (bit salty and dry). This is a rare miss.

Great fast Korean food. I got the special combo which includes beef and chicken and it was exquisite. The food has tons of flavor and meat cuts are great. The side choices are equally impressive. The prices are very very reasonable and if you are not a big eater, you can share a plate because the servings are huge. The only thing I didn’t like and it’s not related to the restaurant itself, is the seating. The restaurant is located in the food court of the mall so it gets packed! Crazy packed after school gets out and the tourists are there in masses. Besides that, Greta place to eat and definitely a must if you are in Oahu.

Yummy Korean BBQ is a great, affordable option for Korean BBQ lovers looking for a quick and tasty meal in the Ala Moana Food Court.

In depth review:

Located in the Ala Moana Food Court, Yummy Korean BBQ offers a quick yet satisfying Korean BBQ experience. Despite being in a food court, it provides fresh, flavorful grilled meats like bulgogi, pork belly, and beef brisket. The all-you-can-eat option is a great value, allowing you to try a variety of meats and sides.

The banchan (side dishes) are basic but complement the BBQ well, with kimchi, pickled radish, and seasoned veggies. The dipping sauces, including ssamjang and sesame oil with salt, are excellent for enhancing the grilled meats. Vegetables like mushrooms and onions are also available for grilling.

Service is efficient and friendly, and while the food court setting is casual, it’s still a fun spot for a quick BBQ meal. The food is high-quality for the price, though it can get busy, so be prepared for a short wait.

Pros:
* Fresh, flavorful meats.
* Good all-you-can-eat value.
* Fast and friendly service.

Cons:

* Can get busy with wait times.

Good food, BBQ chicken was tender and juicy. The fried shrimp was very good. Portions are large, you’ll have enough for a second meal. Prices are decent and service was good.
