I was there for dinner with my wife. Fabio was our server, and as usually I love to tell my server surprise me with a 3 course meal. So to start he recommended the mussels, which I had to even drink the broth it was soooo tasty !!! Then I got the snails with butter and garlic!!! Omg they were just perfect. Then for main courses we got the duck raviolis with mushrooms which they were outstanding, and then the grill duck confit, which was very juicy but the skin could be a little more crispier, but still the inside was professionally cooked. For dessert we had the traditional and perfectly made crème brûlée with 2 delicious espresso martinis. Worth every penny spent there and love the old style of back bay fine dining restaurant.

01/17/2026: We just had an unforgettable dinner at Aquitaine, and I’m still swooning ! From start to finish, the service was top-notch, and the food was pure magic ‍ . Chef Lilo is a master of his craft – bravo!

The atmosphere is wonderfully cozy, making it easy to lose track of time (in the best way possible). We had the Duck and short ribs, both incredible, but I’m already planning my next visit to try something new .

If you’re looking for a special spot for any occasion, Aquitaine is a 10/10 recommendation from us! Can’t wait to bring friends and family, and celebrate more milestones here

Once again Thank you Chef Lilo

Phenomenal service. Food tasted amazing, drinks were great. Portions were a little small but for the quality I find that tradeoff acceptable. Not as expensive as you might believe! Good upscale date night option!

Duck confit salad was amazing and hit the spot. The pear and beets complimented the duck perfectly. The service was also top notch. Great ambience without feeling stuffy. We will definitely be back.

We celebrated our anniversary here and Fabio took such great care of us tonight. The chicken and duck confit were tender and moist. The lavender honey paired perfectly with the duck especially!

Despite some initial confusion on which server had our table, Fabio made sure to check in through out our meal and was very attentive. He even brought us light snacks for the “wait” (It really wasn’t more than 20 minutes at most!).

Very excited to come back and try their brunch next time! Thank you Fabio again for making our anniversary dinner amazing 🙂

Celebrated a very special milestone – my citizenship anniversary – at Aquitaine on Tremont Street, and it couldn’t have been more perfect!

Our server David truly made the experience extraordinary. His energy, attention to detail, and genuine kindness elevated what was already a meaningful day into something truly memorable. Gimena was also wonderful and added to the exceptional service throughout our meal.

For lunch, we enjoyed the truffle omelet (absolutely divine – perfectly executed with just the right amount of truffle), fresh mussels that were beautifully prepared, and the duck sandwich which was outstanding. Every dish showcased the restaurant’s commitment to quality French cuisine.

The combination of exceptional food, impeccable service, and the warm atmosphere made this citizenship anniversary celebration one I’ll never forget. A special thank you to David – your dedication to making guests feel special doesn’t go unnoticed!

Highly recommend Aquitaine for any special occasion. We’ll definitely be back!.

Don’t waste your money. This was maybe the worst dining experiences we have ever had. Starting off we had a reservation for 8:45 which was pretty late for us but the menu seemed amazing, so we thought it would be worth the wait. We arrived 10 minutes early at 8:35 where we could clearly see there was no available tables. The host informed us it would be about a 10-15 minute wait. No problem! As the tables began clearing out I thought for sure one had to be for us. Wrong. 3 parties that came in after us, yet were seated right away. After 30 minutes past our reservation time they came over to inform us it should be only another 5-10. 40 minutes after our reservation slot is when we finally got sat. Due to the wait and it being our friends birthday they offered to bring us over complementary champagne, except nothing ever came over! After pouring our water, our server who was an older woman disappeared for another 20 minutes before we had a chance to put our drink order in. Anyways now with it being late we decided to just split a bottle of wine and ordered 3 steaks except they were out of there hanger steak ( steak frites Aquitaine) so we had to upgrade to the NY strip. Our waitress informed us that besides the added cost of it being a more expensive cut they would be happy to put the same truffle vinaigrette, side salad and fries that come with that original dish. With that all 3 of our steaks came out without the vinaigrette, without the side salad, and was what I argue borderline raw in the middle (picture inserted below is my “medium” cooked steak). Out waitress never returned to ask how things turned out so unfortunately we had to flag down who we now know was the manager for help. We asked if the steaks could be cooked more and the vinaigrette to come on all our steaks as promised. The steaks came back slightly more cooked with no salads and she handed us one tiny cup of the vinaigrette to share between 3 Ny strips. After all of that we asked for the manager who to give credit was the nicest person out of this whole experience and offered us a gift card to come back. On top of it all, our waitress only became personable or polite after she dropped off the check, she never apologized for any inconvenience which probably could’ve made the whole experience better. I will never be back and am not from this part of Massachusetts so he took off 50 dollars from our bill as the resolution. Overall not worth your hard earned money or your time.

We were in Boston for one night and, once again, on the endless search for a proper French restaurant that can execute a classic steak au poivre. Unfortunately, Aquitaine missed the mark.

The atmosphere: the tables are extremely small and packed tightly together, making the dining experience feel cramped and uncomfortable.

The food. We ordered the steak au poivre and it was a disappointment. It was not prepared correctly, lacked depth and balance, and to make matters worse, we were charged $10 for an extra 1/2 cup of the sauce. A $225 meal that was not worth it.

A note on authenticity: no one on staff spoke French, and the restaurant felt far removed from a traditional French brasserie experience.

Positives:
• Service was good and attentive
• Green beans were well prepared

That’s it. If you’re looking for classic French execution—especially steak au poivre—this isn’t the place.

The restaurant looks beautiful and is very well maintained. Upon arrival, we were greeted nicely, and the service at first was attentive and pleasant. The food was good no complaints there.

However, it quickly became clear that something is off with the management. The manager spent most of the evening sitting at the console and bar on his phone, or eating a steak at the bar, while the staff barely interacted with each other or the guests. The kitchen staff gathered in the front part of the restaurant.

The woman behind the bar showed hardly any interest in what was going on around her. She was only focused on polishing her bottles. When we asked specific questions, she answered them, but there was no “hello” or “good evening” when we came over from the restaurant to the bar: just indifference.

Our waitress did a good job and was polite, but there’s a clear lack of leadership and engagement in the team. The overall atmosphere felt detached and disinterested.

As from a human interest perspective, perhaps some could better work at Amazon.com: no need for any human interaction there.

In short: a beautiful place with good food, but poor management and a lack of genuine attention make the experience fall flat.

Cute French bistro in South End with great ambiance, but overpriced dishes. The best dish was the bread pudding, it was crispy yet soft and moist inside, the warmth melting the vanilla ice cream on top. The steak was good but not thoroughly seasoned and not worth the price tag. Fries a little soggy. Duck was tender but the sauce was quite salty.
