Kristin was our server and she was great. Glad we stopped and hope to visit again! It was a must in the Beaver Falls/Monaca/Rochester area!
Yes, service might be a little slow, but it’s worth the wait AND the portions are HUGE (no lie, check out the pictures). The food tastes like it was made to order!!
We started with the Roasted Red Pepper Soup. So flavorful and fresh, and the two large bread croutons that came with it were nice and buttery!! My husband debated between the appetizer meatballs, the entree meatballs and the meatball hoagie. He settled on the hoagie because it came with potato salad. We were SHOCKED when his hoagie arrived (see pictures) because it was GINORMOUS!! My choice was the Polish Bowl because I love everything in it: pierogis, sauerkraut, kielbasa, bacon and butter (sour cream was extra and worth it).
Needless to say we both could only eat half, so leftovers for later this week are perfect!!
We will be back next time we are “home” and look forward to trying other menu items!!
The dining room was nice and cozy.
We started out with a side wedge salad. Which was a 1/4 head of lettuce and was totally disassembled. The ranch was nice and thick and the ingredients were fresh. We also had a meatball appetizer which was delicious. Very seasoned, but not bad. The Meatballs were fresh, not frozen and the marinara was good.
For entrees, we ordered the pretzel crusted chicken and the Cheese steak.
The chicken was served with asparagus and rice pilaf. The rice was very average. The asparagus was cooked well – not overcooked, The chicken almost had the consistency of pork and I felt the pretzel flavor was light.
The cheese steak was a generous portion. Great flavor. I just feel the bread should have been lightly toasted. I was personally not a fan of the potato salad. It was served cold and a vinegar base with pickled vegetables. tried it, just not for me.
We had a raspberry doughnut cheesecake for dessert. It was very sweet punctuated by a raspberry tart finish which was needed.
The service also went downhill as the night went on. I had to ask for a second glass of water twice before I got it and the neighboring table was checked on 3 times for every 1 that we were visited.
My friend ordered the pierogi bowl. It had sausage, pierogi, and sauerkraut. She gave it two thumbs up.
The menu has a wide selection, and I think the prices are fair. If you are a local, you probably know this location has been home to quite a few restaurants, and not one of them made it long. I think The Grumpy Beaver is here to stay!
