We were planning on going to another all-you-can-eat sushi place, but there was a fourty five minute wait time so we originally went here as a second choice. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised by Katana Pittsburgh. There was zero wait and it was not busy at all! Our server was so kind when responding to our questions and the service was so quick. I got four appetizers and three rolls and each was just as delicious as the last. Definitely got my moneys worth. Along with the good food and service the atmosphere was amazing, it was clean and quiet and overall a great time. 10/10

By far my favorite sushi restaurant in Pittsburgh. I come here at least twice a week for the AYCE. For 30$ you really can’t beat it. The quality is amazing for the price, service is always great and their house sake is delicious.

I’ve wanted to try this place for years but I never got around to it. I’m glad I finally did because it’s amazing. They have an all you can eat option which blew me away. Everything is fresh and delicious. There is a really good selection. They even have a dessert section of the all you can eat. I have plans of coming back.

It is really unfortunate that we were turned away this evening. This was our favorite Sushi location in the City.
At 4:25 PM, we were refused service due to our service animal. He had a clearly-labeled vest, and we provided the ID demonstrating his training status. We were refused service after this fact.

I can see the owner recently responded to a different review about this encounter. And lied. This is unacceptable. I have edited this response to include a PHOTO of the vest the service dog wears AT ALL TIMES when working.

FAQs
What is a Service Dog/Animal? “A service animal is any animal that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks that benefit an individual with a disability”. –Americans with Disabilities Act 1990, Title III-4.2300 The ADA protects the rights of people with disabilities to be accompanied by their service animals. The majority of the service animals are dogs of various breeds which are trained to perform tasks that are beneficial to the individual with a disability. Service animals may be identified as “assistance animal/dog”, “support animal/dog”, or “helper dog”.
Q: I have always had a clearly posted “no pets” policy at my establishment. Do I still have to allow service animals in?
A: Yes. A service animal is not a pet. The ADA requires you to modify your “no pets” policy to allow the use of a service animal by a person with a disability. This does not mean you must abandon your “no pets” policy altogether but simply that you must make an exception to your general rule for service animals.
What Are the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Modifying Your “No Pets Policy”?
§36.302 Modifications in policies, practices or procedures.
a) General. A public accommodation shall make reasonable modifications in policies, practices and procedures, when the modifications are necessary to afford goods, services, facilities, privileges or advantages to people with disabilities, unless the public accommodation can demonstrate that making the modifications would fundamentally alter the nature of goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages or accommodations. . .
b) Service animals-(1) General. Generally, a public accommodation shall modify policies, practices, or procedures to permit the use of a service animal by an individual with a disability. (2) Care or supervision of service animals. Nothing in this part requires a public accommodation to supervise or care for a service animal. 1 The ADA requires businesses to modify their “no pets” policies, practices and procedures, to allow service animals accompanied a person with a disability. 1 28 CFR Ch. 1 (7-1-94 Edition) Subpart C §36.302 Nondiscrimination on the Bases of Disability by Public Accommodations and in Commercial Facilities

If a Service Animal Enters Into Your Business, What Should Your Employees Ask?

1. Politely ask if their animal is a pet. This gives the person an opportunity to respond without feeling offended. Shouting at the person “No dogs allowed” or “get your dog out of here” it’s not an appropriate approach. The ADA does not require people with disabilities to provide businesses with documentation for their animal. The person with a disability could file a complaint with the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Section. Also, each state has an agency which investigates complaints of discrimination. Also, some state laws may have criminal penalties which may include fines and imprisonment. Punitive damages and penalties may be imposed if the businesses are not compliant. It’s wise to use common courtesy. It’s good for business.
NOTE: If an animal has a harness, cape, backpack, tags or special colored collar, this may indicate the animal is a service animal. However, certification or identification of a service animal wearing any specialized apparel or harness is not required by the ADA. 2. Ask the person if the animal is for their disability, if you aren’t sure if the animal is a service animal.

Came here on a tuesday afternoon and it was practically empty. Got the all you can eat and definitely got my money’s worth! Friendly, attentive staff, delicious food and didn’t feel rushed out! The yellowtail with jalapeno appetizer was my favorite, I recommended it if you don’t mind a little bit of heat.

Really great experiences here, each time I’ve visited. The $30 all you can eat sushi is a good value, and their menu items are extensive. The service is top notch and each sushi item is freshly prepared with care. Their drinks are reasonably priced, and if you’re in the area looking for all you can eat sushi, this is a fantastic option worth visiting.

Food was absolutely amazing. People and atmosphere were incredibly welcoming and warm, and the cocktails were mixed well but strong. All in all excellent experience, would definitely come back! Thanks Katana! It was my girlfriend’s first time trying sushi and these people made it a good experience for her.

Got their AYCE, smaller menu than sushi bomb but higher quality. The sashimi is also included at no upcharge, and although it is limited it’s 15 pieces per fish which is more than enough (potentially 105 pieces of seafood sashimi).

One star off because the sashimi is cut pretty thin compared to places I have been in other cities, but still the best in Pittsburgh for AYCE so far.

Main complaint has nothing to do with the food itself: but the location sucks. There is NO parking available, expect to get scammed into needing to pay for parking at a nearby lot or street meter.

I love the all you can eat sushi they have Sundays through Thursdays for only $23.95! The people who work here are extremely friendly and it’s my go to place when I just want to be where everyone knows me. Whenever I walk in, they invite me to just take my normal seat at their sushi bar. They also have a full menu with a mix of Japanese, Chinese, and hibachi items to choose from. If you don’t see what you want on the all you can eat sushi menu, they also have many rolls to choose from of their main menu.

Great experience for an AYCE for $30.

Good selection of sushi and appetizers with attentive service. Best part is the options for desserts including taiyaki and mochi!
