We haven’t been here in a decade. Sad to say we missed out. We had a spectacular meal during restaurant week for three courses. We had the arancini, apple cider donuts, eggs Benedict, fried catfish, French toast, apple cake, and chocolate cremieux. All tasted great and we had superb service throughout.

I enjoyed a nice dinner at Vermilion after traveling for 12 hours due to weather delays. Im not sure if it is my extreme hunger or my love of unique restaurants, but I definitely enjoyed my dinner here.
I had the New Frontier Bison Flank Steak and enjoyed every bite. The unique combo of red sauce with beans accompanied by medium rare bison and some small slices of goat cheese were an enjoyable experience.
The gentleman behind the bar was a retired Marine and complete professional.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time and I believe that you will too.

Bad experience. Although they admitted their mistake by not charging us for the burgers they’d forgotten to include in our order. It took 50 minutes for them to arrive at our table. The food was good. Apple cider donuts and the aforementioned burgers.

We love Vermillion and we were SO looking forward to our meal here for NYE but we could not have been more disappointed. $135 dollar set menu per person for family style food (ok, sure) but the quality and the portions were ridiculous. Each appetizer was a single bite OR we had to cut it up and ration it. For our entree, as a table of five we got a few slices of under seasoned flavorless beef and a couple pieces of dry fish that tasted like it came out of a tuna can. We didn’t eat it. We also didn’t get our included glass of sparkling wine or the “extra treats” that were advertised. When we found out the chef for the event called “NYE with Chef Tony” had left before the time of our reservation, it started to make sense. I honestly want my money back. David just stared at me blankly while I explained how disappointed we were and told me that “everyone was raving about the food”. Later we found out that he was giving us 50% off the food, but it wasn’t enough in my opinion.

Delicious food, casual relaxed atmosphere, implacable service.

It was our first time here, we opted for their prefix menu, they call it “farm-to-table menu” I think.

There was a nice mix of appetizers, a reasonably sized entree and a few other amuse-bouche bites. Every dish has an interesting, yet excellent twist, with a good mix of complimentary flavors and textures. Like figs & blue cheese, fried oysters and anchovies, etc.

The short rib entrée was delicious, complimented with roasted peanuts and perfectly charred, slightly crunchy broccoli rabe.

It’s a bit useless to share specific items we had, since menu is seasonal and ever changing, but I will add pictures.

Place felt very understaffed – our waiter was nice and doing his best I felt bad. Food took super long – table next to us left before they got theirs. Food was pretty good, nothing special. The thing that was insane to me was that they charge you for a pre fix menu and give you a single portion of multiple of the dishes. The main entre was a single slice of filet for each person (2 single slices total for two people). Seems insane to me to split single bites for apps and have an entire entree be a single slice of filet for two people. Would not return or recommend.

Awesome farm to table experience tonight. A little pricey, but delicious. We were so stuffed that we couldn’t finish the dessert and took it to go. Eric was our server- he was awesome! Did a great job, very attentive, social and delightful to chat with. We even made friends with the people next to us and shared stories as we wrapped up our dinner. Service was on point, food was plentiful, ambience was perfect for date night. All around, 10/10 experience.

Before anything else, I want to acknowledge that this review is not a reflection of the service staff or our server. They were wonderful, gracious, and clearly doing their best. We are genuinely grateful that they spent their New Year’s Eve taking care of us.

This review is directed squarely at the corporate leadership that runs Vermilion.

Unfortunately, this was the worst dining experience my party and I have ever had. From start to finish, it was a mess. The food ranged from poorly executed to outright inedible, portions were inconsistent and small, and the overall value simply wasn’t there – we left starving. The entire evening felt like an overpriced cash grab, rather than a celebration worthy of the occasion.

PS: They explicitly call out a complimentary glass of sparkling wine in their advertisements – we did not get one even after asking, having to instead order a bottle for the table on our own dime. Also, not a single gift from the kitchen throughout the meal.

Please think very carefully before booking a special event at Vermilion. In our experience, this company did not respect our time, our investment, or our trust. Until there is a serious reset in how this restaurant is run, I would strongly recommend avoiding it for any important occasion.

I really enjoyed that it’s all local sourced food! Highly recommend. In Alexandria the farther you are from the water the better the food and this rings true once again! Definitely stop and enjoy the food!

Dinner Friday Dec 12. Great food and drinks, we had the short rib and squash & pumpkin variations and the tartare to start. Juliette was our server and she did a fantastic job leading us to the squash and pumpkin dish which was outstanding.
