Sad & Disappointing! We rolled up after the gym, starving, hoping for a solid lamb gyro. Instead, we got a pita with basically no meat, just a bunch of raw onions and flavorless tomatoes. To top it off, the lady taking our order seemed like we were ruining her day just by showing up. Fries were the only saving grace. If you’re in the mood for a gyro with actual meat and a smile, I’d go somewhere else.

Got the philly and fries. The Philly was pretty tasty, but the fries stole the show. A nice crisp with enough salt to balance the flavor. Would definitely come back to try another sandwich and get more fries.

This great little food truck serves up really good gyro! The meat is amazingly flavored and delicious. It’s right by a cute little park so you can pick up your food and grab a picnic table or a bench. We will be back to try more of their menu items.

We love going here. I avoided it because the idea of Duck fat was odd, but the crisp and flavor is incredible! We could eat their fries every day. The Gyro is also SO good. The service is superb. Today when I went to get my order the employee felt my fries were not crisp enough so made a new batch. That is true service.

Cheesy fries – I expected soft, creamy cheese but it was regular cheese just melted on top. Fries are hard to pull apart when the cheese congeals. And idk that many people wanna eat congealed cheese anyway?

Philly cheesesteak – pretty good. Could use some green peppers but it’s good! And seasoned well! And the bread didn’t get soggy either.

Plain fries – good and crispy. Not soaked in oil.

If you’re tired of the Hawaiian plates, Asian food, or fast food around here, this is definitely worth checkin out! I, personally, will be returning.

The Duck Fat Food Truck is the real deal! Their beef and lamb gyro was simply incredible. The soft bread paired with the tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef and lamb, along with all the fresh veggie trimmings, made for an absolutely delicious experience. The tzatziki sauce was incredibly tasty—I’ll definitely be ordering a double portion next time. It was that good! We also tried the pastrami sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The soft bread and perfectly melted cheese complemented the flavorful pastrami beautifully. It was a truly fantastic sandwich.
Our experience at this establishment was exceptional in every regard. From the warm welcome, including specific driving directions provided via mobile phone, to the diverse menu options and high-quality meal preparation in a clean food truck kitchen, every detail was meticulously executed. The staff was kind and respectful, contributing to an overall top-notch experience with true aloha! Trust us, as food enthusiasts, we highly recommend this business with great confidence! We are already looking forward to our next visit! A special thanks for taking the time to meet our dog! It meant a lot to us.

Duck Fat Ruined Our Vacation—in the Best Possible Way

We stumbled upon Duck Fat on our first full day on the Big Island, eager to find something local and delicious. Little did we know it would completely ruin the rest of our food plans. Why? Because nothing else we tried on the island came close. We’ve now been back three times in under two weeks. That’s not vacation behavior… that’s obsession.

From the moment you walk up, the folks running Duck Fat make you feel like ohana. By our second visit, they already recognized us, greeted us with genuine warmth, and thanked us like we were regulars. Their love for their craft and community shows in every single interaction—this is exactly the kind of local business we want to support when we travel.

And the food? Absolutely phenomenal.

The lamb and beef gyro is perfection: juicy, flavorful meat, charred just right, tucked into pillowy-soft flatbread with crisp veggies, creamy tzatziki, and a little side of pepperoncini to keep things zippy. And then there are the loaded Philly-style fries—cheesy, meaty, dreamy. These aren’t your typical soggy mess. They somehow stay crisp while being blanketed in all that melty, savory goodness. I don’t know how they do it, but I’m grateful they do.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Duck Fat is a 5-star affair across the board. Delicious food, heartfelt service, and a vibe that makes you want to come back before you’ve even finished eating.

Skip the expensive Hilo restaurants with slow service and mediocre food. This selection of food trucks offers really high quality meals and great value. Pizza, Organic, Vietnamese, and best iced coffee in Hilo. Plus, a beautiful park next door with plenty of free parking and shady picnic tables to enjoy your meal. The food trucks have their own eating area if you prefer and restrooms (port-a-potties) are also available.

Okay first, customer service was great! I called a little after 5pm (not knowing they closed at 5) and asked if they were still open. Whoever answered told me to hang on and he would see if the girls working were still there. He called back promptly and said I could go ahead and place an order because they had a last minute rush and were still cooking. AWESOME!

Now, I haven’t had that many phillys in my life but WOW!! This is by far the best one! And the fries are to die for. They asked if I wanted ketchup and garlic aioli which I gladly said yes to but I didn’t even use it, the fries are that good on their own. If you are in the Hilo area, definitely a must try.
