I ordered online a few hours ahead of time and set my pick-up time for 7:20. The food was waiting for us on the counter when we arrived. I wish that there was table service available, but this place is a takeout spot. There are, however, a couple of tables inside for anyone that wants to eat there (which we did). Also, there is no bathroom for customers, so dining there was not the most comfortable option. For a takeout spot though, this was pretty good. The packaging and branding is really cute, and if I were to have this delivered to me via a food delivery app, I wouldn’t be mad. I love/hate the assemblable chopsticks because they are so cute and look like lego lightsabers but are so flimsy and frustrating to eat with. I also think that the food, although still yummy and perfectly edible, did not exactly taste the freshest, probably because it is a takeout joint. Also, I really liked my lychee green tea.
For the foreseeable future, I will continue to order from this location for my banh cuon cravings when I go in the office… because this is literally my only option.
Came with a sweet potato fritter, Vietnamese ham, their house sauce, bean sprouts, fried garlic chips, and the noodle rolls. The rolls were chewy and thin and filled with a good amount of ground pork, wood ear mushrooms and onions. The onions were something I usually don’t find in bun cuon. The house sauce was like fish sauce but with garlic. That and the garlic chips added a nice umami savoriness. The Vietnamese ham was like bologna. More oily and bland than usual. The veggies were crunchy and fresh. The sweet potato fritter was the most unique and best thing. Crunchy, crispy, and slightly sweet. The packaging and utensils given were really high quality.
Overall though, it’s pretty pricey and mid. A one and done experience. Not necessarily bad or good.
Pros: packaging, lots of filling, fresh
Cons: expensive, wait time took 15-20 minutes for one thing
I have to order their Tay Ho plate everytime we’re in town. Banh cuon is my favorite Vietnamese food and what I grew up eating in Vietnam, they absolutely nail the taste of every ingredient in the dish. The portion was also pretty generous.
Loved the pandan coffee as well. ‘Honest Vietnamese taste’ is truly an accurate statement
I also ordered a ube coffee. The ube flavor stood out, and the coffee was not super strong, which made the two a perfect match.
My mouth is watering as I am writing about that. I will come back for more food and coffee. There are underground parking space available. Parking is easy.
I really liked the texture of the rice rolls & I loved the variety they put in one box. Also, the fritter was good & the fish sauce was not overpowering too. As for the drink, lychee lemonade was tasty as well, some might think it’s a tad too sweet, which I also agree. But I actually enjoyed the lychee in the drink. So refreshing!
Downside? Just one thing I think that can be improved, I do wish they could give more filling inside the rice rolls. Some bites were all rice roll, and no filling. Other than that, everything was great! Service was fast and friendly. Some may think it’s over packaging, but I thought it’s pretty cute. We took the food to a picnic and I felt fancy eating that haha
All in all, worth trying. They are just perfect for the Socal hot days!
I was told that this location is the brainchild of the grand daughter of the original Westminster owner trying a new concept of takeout only fast food joint. For the people who love Tay Ho’s food and don’t want to wait, this type of takeout restaurant would be perfect for them. Just order online and then pick up from the restaurant.
The menu is a slimed down version of the original full service restaurant. But all my favorite Vietnamese dishes are on the menu and it’s now listed as sets. This design make the ordering process simple and easy. No complicated decision is needed.
I always order the Banh Cuon ( rice noodle roll) with mice droppings pork and mushrooms along with fried egg roll and Vietnamese bolognese.
This location also offers many fruit drinks and Vietnamese desserts. I tried the Strawberry Peach drink today and it was delicious. I do recommend red bean and green bean desserts.
I believe this branch out of the takeout fast food chain will do well as people are busy nowadays. It’s ideal for the people who work at home and can’t afford to be away too long.
The rice rolls were dry, the egg roll was burned, and the fried sweet potatoes were soggy, not crunchy at all. and the ham looked microwaved and was super dry. The fish sauce was way too salty–I had to add lemon and sugar just to balance it. Overall It tasted like overnight food. Very disappointed–won’t order again.
