For our first time we splurged so we could try a bit of everything. Two hot dogs each plus chili cheese fries and a Fitz soda each. They have a huge selection of Fitz bottles which I really enjoyed because their are flavors you just don’t find outside their own restaurants.
Enough about soda though, lets talk food. The chili cheese fries use homemade chili and that is really good. The fries normally come with a nacho cheese sauce but they let us switch for shredded cheese instead. I would eat the chili on its own.
For the dogs they serve flights of four. That is a great idea and perhaps my only gripe is the lack of flexibility. There are four flights each with six-eight options at different price points. You can only order from a single flights options instead of being able to pick from across the options and just pay the cost for the most expensive flight represented. That would have been ideal for us but instead we had to go a la cart.
With that being the case we got small versions of the Island, the Sugar Rush, the Fire in the Hole, and the Disapproval. The sweet dogs (Island/Sugar Rush) are wrapped in bacon which was really crispy the way we like it. The Fire in the Hole was supposed to be spicy and I found it disappointingly not. That said I have a high tolerance for spicy so YMMV. The Disapproval is a hot dog with sauerkraut and delivered exactly that experience.
Over all we enjoyed the experience. In the future we will likely just do a single large dog each because eating the way we did was a bit pricey but that was a choice on our part. If there is any downside the small hot dogs are… a bit skinny for their price. Especially on thr too end of the menu like the Fire in the Hole. Also while there are some really novel pairings we had not considered on a hotdog (brown sugar and maple syrup?!) several of those options are very doable at home so when we go back it will be for stuff like the chili dogs which offer the unique toppings.
A good experience, good service, and an option when we are hungry and in the area.
The buns are super light and fresh, cut and steamed right before serving so they are unbelievably soft.
I also had a side of potato salad; I love trying house-made potato salad at restaurants. I feel like it gives a sense of how much attention the chef puts into something simple. It went perfectly with the hot dog, was not too overpowering with the onion or relish, and had a nice tang from the mustard. I would heartily approve of this potato salad at any family gathering, potluck, or holiday meal.
I’ll definitely be coming back with my family, or ordering takeout if it’s a busy night! Thank you for making my lunch today!
What a nice hidden (in plain sight) gem of a restaurant!
This place has great tasty dogs (a very large selection of them) served by a very friendly staff at reasonable prices!
When you add in ability to get a cold beer, you have to ask yourself how often can I stop here!
