Social Profile:

The turning peel pizza dough is sourdough naturally leavened for 3 days. Sourdough is easier to digest and much healthier for your body. And it gives that flavor you cannot resist. Airy rim and thin crust: the AVPN has a standard for Neapolitan pizza. The dough ball weight should be around 240g for an 11 pizza and cooked for 60-90s. The turning peel follows the AVPN standard. The turning peel pizza has a deliciously chewy, yet crunchy texture. A thin crust that can surprisingly withhold the toppings.

Great experience. I love a good sourdough crust. The owner is super sweet and I love the home-y feel. The patio can get a little chilly but they try to make it vibe-y. I think a crowd favorite is the truffle mushroom pizza. Highly recommend getting the whipped ricotta to dip as well. Also recommend making a reservation.

The Turning Peel is an amazing pizza spot! The dough is light and airy, the topping combinations are endless, the salads are a perfect accompaniment, and you must get the crust dip!

When you step into this lovely historic house, it feels like you’re somewhere else. I can’t wait until the weather warms up so I can sit in the outside area.

We’re so lucky to have such a gem of a pizza place here in Portland! I love The Turning Peel! Stopped by for lunch today and the vibes were amazing as always. Such a cute and cozy place with eclectic decor and the smell of fresh pizza and sourdough in the air. The staff is always so warm, friendly, and attentive. I personally love the easy ordering system using the QR code. It’s quick and seamless, while the staff still floats around checking in if you need anything. I got the Margherita today while my partner got the pepperoni. We had the arugula salad to share, and the Parmesan and pumpkin seeds were a nice touch. Not sure what Parmesan they use but I noticed that it was delightfully rich, nutty, and floral-like. I can’t even begin to describe just how perfect their pizzas are. The crust is so dang tasty and perfectly chewy. We also ordered the ranch and whipped ricotta with garlic and honey to dip our crusts into, it is a must!

If you’re serious about pizza in Portland, The Turning Peel belongs on your shortlist. It’s the kind of place that earns its reputation quietly, through craft rather than fanfare.

The sourdough crust is the star of the show — and rightfully so. You can taste the care that goes into it. Blistered and chewy in all the right ways, it’s the foundation that elevates every pie. The owner’s obsessive dedication to maintaining the sourdough mother shows up in every single bite.

In a city with no shortage of excellent pizza, The Turning Peel holds its own among the very best. If you care about the details this is your place.

Self ordering on mobile is great. Pizza is just ok to me. I wouldn’t take out of town guests here but I would definitely stop by for lunch!
The sour dough is pretty solid. Would highly recommend getting the garlic ricotta crust dip.

Rankings:
1. Pepperoni + Jalapeno
2. Truffle
3. Squash

Wouldn’t reorder the tiramisu again because it was really really really heavy on the rum.

A taste of Italy in Oregon!!! Best pizza I’ve had!the crust is perfection thin, charred, and airy! I also got the ricotta garlic sauce which was the perfect dip to eat up the crust. Came here with a large group of girls and there was plenty of seating both inside and outdoors. The furniture and little accessories added the perfect touch of comfort. There were literally grape vines all round the patio and we got to slice up our pizza with scissors! Anyway, well worth your money for the quality and quantity!

The Turning Peel remains one of my favorite pizza and overall restaurants in the Portland area. My second time visiting this afternoon and well worth the anticipation! No wait time for a 2pm lunch. I ordered the special ‘Delicata’ pizza this time- their seasonal and vegetarian customizations really make it a special experience. Comfy, intimate interior and beautiful back porch with personalized lighting that makes you feel welcomed as if you were dining in an antique portland home. Definitely a must-try if you enjoy a distinct sourdough crust and Neapolitan style pizza.

absolutely delicious! best crust I’ve maybe ever had.. even in Italy. loved the sauce & just tasted so thoughtfully made. can’t wait to come back & try more.

you gotta get the crust dip! 1 per pizza.. the ricotta honey garlic was so good & loved it as a bonus.

the patio really is charming, went in fall when it wasn’t blooming and was covered and still great. Inside looks so cute too!

Our first time. Good food, good service, and cute lil place. I was hoping they had some of their pizza bread everyone raves about but they didn’t have any for me . I’ll have to try again. Thank you, The Turning Peel, for having us.

This place is a GEM for making sourdough pizza. Most normal pizza is made with conventional flour that tears my stomach up and ruins my digestion for a day or two. This stuff is CLEAN and digests like water – a godsend for a bodybuilder or anyone that cares about health & wellness. Their pizza can easily go toe to toe with some of the “best” of Portland (think Ken’s, Lovely’s 50/50, etc) but I’d say it’s superior because it doesn’t leave me feeling heavy and sluggish the next day! Very cozy atmosphere too as the place is in an old converted craftsman home. 10/10 experience
