I got the short rib. Super tender. Did not like the veal gravy. Mashed lacked flavor.
My oldest got the tuna ahi salad, she loved it. My middle daughter got the burger, said it was ok. My youngest got tortellini with chicken, said it did the job. 2 others got chicken Cesar salad, hard to mess up. Another person got the calamari and said the batter was good. A few ppl got the shrimp as an addition to their meal. All approved but one said they were undercooked. Crab cake was way too fishy. The seasonal meatballs were good. Bread basket was good. Another friend got the pork chop and said it was good. Several friends got steak, asked for it to be medium and it came out well done. So overall the kitchen was the issue.
I used to work at Bar Harbor back in the ‘90s, and it was truly a gem. Back then, the food was top-notch, the atmosphere felt special, and the place had that warm, supper club charm that made you want to linger. Sadly, those days seem long gone.
We had reservations (because you must have them — no walk-ins allowed anymore), but even then, don’t bother showing up early and thinking you might actually sit early. Nope. You’ll stand there awkwardly, staring at your empty table, while they remind you your time hasn’t come yet. It’s a strange, unwelcoming vibe — like they’re letting you in begrudgingly.
The service? Underwhelming at best. No warmth, no bread service (which used to be a staple here), and very little sense that they care if you come back.
The food? Definitely not what it once was. I ordered the surf and turf, which turned out to be tough & chewy on the steak side and just okay on the shrimp side. The mashed potatoes were honestly the best part of the plate — which kind of tells you everything you need to know.
My son ordered the macaroni and cheese, and to my dismay, it looked suspiciously like Kraft straight out of the box. Not what I expected from a place that used to set the bar high.
The menu is much smaller now, and the drinks were nothing to write home about. Overall, the whole experience just left me wondering what happened to the Bar Harbor I knew and loved.
Here’s hoping they can bring back some of the magic — and maybe some bread while they’re at it.
Lady never came back to the table to pick up the bill and see if we need a change.
I’m telling you straight up do not order any steaks pork chops from this place you will not be happy..
Inside closed till four. So we sat a the marvelous patio bar. Watched the many many boats just no waking by.
Excellent service. Cold and good drinks.
We split a Cuban Sandwich with fries WOW!
Won a hundred bucks on Shoot the Moon pull tabs.
Embarrassing – my guests seen her body language across the room.
Asked for a manager , never showed up. Then a server approached us and sat us. Again no manager contact.
No matter the situation – a special night was ruined, $700 dollar dinner ruined, and no sorry just continued stares from a food runner and the hostess.
We have gone there many times before. This place is horrible and others have posted similar
Situations.
Bar staff advised the place has changed and they won’t return. There was a very mean, and bad vibe. To ruin an evening with no contact is super sad. Family flew in and we bragged about this place. Again. Read the reviews – not a good place any longer and zero contact for ruining our night .

Overall, the food is pretty spendy, but depending on what you get it’s worth it (especially when you compare it to some of the other more expensive spots on the lake).
They have a great patio with an outdoor bar, firepit, and even chairs on the lawn. Lots of dock space if you’re going by boat.
Service has always been great. Food comes out pretty quick, always fresh, and very consistent. Their cheesy au gratin potatoes are awesome! My wife typically gets the filet mignon or the prime rib (which is HUGE!). I enjoy the surf and turf, or the burger.
The side salads that come before the meal are also really good, I typically get the cesar.
Prices are high, $35-$60 for a meal,
(prices went up from 2017). The atmosphere, location and service did help rationalize the final bill.
