This is a very nice Asian fusion Chinese restaurant with a great atmosphere, but you need to make reservations in advance. Overall, the flavors are very solid.

I highly recommend their Foie Gras Custard (Foie Gras Steamed Egg) — it was incredibly rich, and the addition of mushrooms enhanced the overall umami.

However, the Foie Gras on Toast set had a slight flaw: the toast was a bit over-charred, which slightly overpowered the dish, and the Eel component was hard to taste.

The Lamb Ribs were decent but nothing extraordinary. The strong barbecue glaze slightly masked the natural flavor of the meat, though the preparation was quite creative.

The Kung Pao Quail was tasty and innovative — so tender that you wouldn’t even guess it was quail.

The Black Cod Clay Pot with Rice was rather average, nothing remarkable.

Overall, this restaurant is quite innovative. The flavors and techniques are authentic while keeping the creative fusion style. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique dining experience.

I went here with my friends, and everything this restaurant served deserves a standing ovation!
The food is amazingly good—every dish comes with beautiful presentation, and you can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. I loved everything; even their simple cucumber salad was incredible—spicy, fresh, nutty, and perfectly balanced.

I absolutely love this place! The ambience is great, and our server was very friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for a restaurant that serves food made with love, you must visit 53.

Shout-out to Chef Mark, Chef Adam, and the entire team for the amazing food. Highly recommended! ❤️

The food and environment were very nice tho overpriced imo. It’s not a quiet place so expect to talk loudly. Unfortunately the main negative was the spotty service. A restaurant like this needs to do better than with accommodating guest food restrictions by making the experience feel seamless. My partner is Celiac, so gluten is an absolute no. When booking, I made sure to add that to the dietary restrictions section. The lady at the front acknowledge that when we walked in. I would expect that at a restaurant like this, our waiter would also know by the time we get to the table, but he didn’t and we told him ourselves, no problem. He was kind enough to outline on the menu which items he thought were gluten-free, so we only ordered from his list. When the clay pot arrived with table side finish, I had a hunch and decided to triple check with the chef if the soy sauce was infact gluten free… it wasn’t… that is unacceptable considering the potential severity of reactions that Celiacs can have to gluten. The chef was kind enough to take the dish back and remake it with GF soy sauce. It was quite disappointing to see that not only the staff failed to communicate such details, but when specifically told, our waiter failed to communicate that to the kitchen.

I don’t think I expected too much considering that it’s a health concern and this is not a cheap restaurant. I would not expect this at a small casual spot. But a $$$$ restaurant needs to do much better on service to justify its prices on a bowl of rice with a small pice of fish.

Interesting restaurant with good food and friendly staff. I really liked the ground-floor interior — simple yet elegant.
The main dining area, however, is two levels down, so it feels like a basement with no windows or fresh air. While the design is tasteful, you do get the sense of sitting in a box.
The staff were genuinely helpful and warm, not robotic, which made the experience pleasant. The food was tasty and well-prepared.
Overall, it’s a nice place for a business dinner or a quiet evening meal.

Excellent experience at this restaurant. We went for dinner, feom the beggining we loved the ambience and look of the place. We ordered cucumber salad as a starter and followed ordering 4 more dishes, our server explained very well the menu options and her suggestions were perfect in taste and quantity. Everything was delicious, we ended our dinner with an exquisite dark chocolate desert accompanied by a famous monk coctail. Will return on future trips to NY to keep trying other menu options.

It’s a cozy place but for an Asian taste this is not a good place for food experience. It’s lacking of that savory flavor. Very pricey as well! If there’s anything I will order the clay pot scallop truffle with rice. Beef tenderloin peppercorn. Salmon carpaccio was ok. Will never order lobster rice in lotus leaf. Royal shumai is tasteless! I won’t recommend the dessert we order here as well.

The ambiance and food at 53 were amazing. The Truffle Egg was a really creative take on egg custard, the Cod Clay Pot was excellent, and the Mango Custard was the perfect balance of flavors and textures. The only minor note on the food, and this might have been intentional, is that the foie gras on the Truffle Egg was uneven in temperature, slightly colder in the middle.

The real issue, and the reason for the 4 star review, was a service misstep. I stepped away from the table briefly after letting the waitress know I’d be back, and during that time they cleared my dessert and drink. I had only taken one bite of the dessert. When I returned, they tried to give me back the cleared dessert, and I had to point out that I didn’t know where it had been or how it was handled. They did replace it, but I would expect better coordination and communication from a restaurant of this caliber.

Have been to this spot multiple times now, and every time I’ve had a great time. Giving it a four star because it’s so pricey, but honestly the food, the vibes, the service is immaculate. Delicious. It’s Chinese fusion, but slightly less fusion. Mostly in the appetizers – loved loved the eel club. Their clay pots are also very delicious. Just wish someone else could get the bill.

I never leave reviews, but this place was just perfect. The hostesses were all so kind and helpful; I missed my reservation by almost two hours, but they were able to get us in as soon as they could and refund us the no-show fee. Our server was so warm and friendly, I wish we got her name, but it started with an S. She’d recommended the royal shumai which ended up being the best thing we ordered, everyone has to come just for that. All of the food came out so quickly, and everything was delicious. The service, food, ambiance, everything was out of this world. I was really motivated to write this review because of the service, I hope they are all recognized for their hospitality!

53 on 53rd Ave in NYC is delicious, classy, and unforgettable. The Beef Tenderloin is a must order! The Raspberry Bouquet cocktail was a little pricey but it was well worth it. A truly wonderful experience.
