Specializing in comfort food, 224 Boston in Dorchester is a neighborhood charmer complete with garden seating. You have everything from a Steak Sandwich to Chicken Milanese but the real showstopper is the 224 Burger featuring caramelized onion aioli, yellow cheddar, and crispy bacon on a sesame bun with hand-cut fries. The Veggie Burger isn’t half bad either, decked out with lettuce, tomato, spicy but sweet togarashi aioli, and pickles sandwiched between a sesame bun. Haven’t been for a few years. And it is hard to find a place open on Mondays since covid19.

Not knowing that the restaurant changed hands, I ordered the calamari, an app I had eaten here a million times. It was awful which is so unfortunate because this place had one of the best calamaris in town. I also ordered wings, which were lacking. They also had a killer bread pudding at one time, and that isn’t on the menu anymore. Sadly I won’t be returning.

Had the (really gross) steak sandwich, which was a $26 burnt grilled cheese with grilled onions and a few bits of steak, not enough to fill 1/4 of a sub from any sub shop. I want to like this place but the best food is okay, and this sandwich was inedible.

Cozy atmosphere and pretty dining tables but the food was way way overpriced for the quality that was offered. Braised short rib ($35) was somewhat dry and eggplant milanese ($26) was a bit plain. Not good value for money at all and I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for a good culinary experience.

It had been many years since I had been. And it was for dinner as well. I like dinner better I think. The setting is wonderful. The outside with its cool old vines and seating area. Inside has maintained its charm. The food was tasty and service was great. Prices are ok here. I don’t know maybe I wasn’t feeling it. But I would come back here for another dinner. Remember local businesses first!!

excellent experience at 224! came around 12 on a sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. menu has a mix of traditional breakfast items and some speciality dishes. the southwest omelette was to die for with the green goddess sauce and the crispy potatoes. would definitely come back here if i’m in boston again soon!

Every plate of food had positives but also strong negatives. Overall, food is under seasoned. Fries were soggy and limp. Buratta was not buratta, but at least the bread was ok. Brussel sprouts with my entree were just straight raw, not undercooked…RAW. Drinks were solid and service kinda ok? Wanted to like this place but cannot recommend our experience. Portion sizes are relatively small also.
