However, this restaurant has two problems. First, it is extremely loud. They’ve already carpeted it, so I’m not sure what else they could do. The second is that apparently they don’t do anything to recognize special occasions, and although I never expected any such recognition, the experience did feel a bit anticlimactic, especially when there are beautiful desserts and stories of cakes and custom menus for other people’s birthdays here on Google Maps. (They knew it was my birthday because the manager? wished me a happy birthday as we were leaving when I had only included that info on the reservation and not said anything.) To me, this demonstrated a complete lack of creativity, which isn’t usually a desirable trait for a restaurant.
Surely there are very inexpensive strategies to recognize a birthday or anniversary that could even be instagrammable and help with their marketing if they don’t want to absorb the cost of a dessert on the menu. I’m imagining slightly elevated table decor, or perhaps a tiny tarte, like the mini ones from Whole Foods (perhaps shaped like a clover?), with a single candle. What if they took an Instax photo of the guests and put a little sticker on it that said “happy birthday” or “happy anniversary”? Just a few ideas. These options would involve next to no cost (not even in labor) and would add so much to the experience, plus they could potentially result in many appealing photos posted online.
They were quite busy for a Thursday, so perhaps they don’t need more business. It’s just odd to me that they haven’t managed to come up with anything for special occasions at all.
Our reservation time to leaving the restaurant was over a period of 2 hours and we didn’t get dessert. They put our family of 9 around a small circular table and the chairs were super close together. It felt like we didn’t have much room to move and the chairs are unbelievably uncomfortable. The temperature in the restaurant was perfect though so that was good.
The food we received was not worth the money spent. The olives and almonds appetizer was really uninteresting other than the almonds having a pretty good flavor to them. The olives just tasted like olives in brine that I’ve had many times over. I don’t know if I was expecting too much from olives and almonds, but it was just kind of boring for the price. It was $58 for a filet mignon. All three that we ordered showed up over cooked and hard to cut through. We didn’t want to send back the three overdone steaks because it had taken over an hour to get our entrees and we all wanted to keep dinner moving. Many people got asparagus with their entrees and out of the ~3 asparagus stalks they received on each of their plates, 1/3 were fibrous and unable to be eaten.
We wouldn’t have minded staying for the two hours if it was comfortable to sit there and the food was good. I think this place needs a major review of their staff and chef(s). The prices just need to go down if they don’t figure this out.
