The Pimientos Rellenos de Bacalao were seriously good—sweet roasted peppers stuffed with creamy, flaky salt cod that felt rich but not too heavy. The Croissant de Ibérico was the only disappointment: The jamón Ibérico was perfectly salty, rich and practically melted on the tongue; the croissant however was rather rubbery and a let down.
You’ve got to order the Pan con Tomate. It sounds basic, but when it’s done right like this—crispy bread, fresh tomato, great olive oil—it really hits and was so good that we are determined to recreate it at home. The Conservas de Sardinas Pequeñas were another highlight—tender, flavorful, and a great example of how amazing good-quality conservas can be.
The Foie Gras Plantxa was perfectly seared and indulgent, the Tortilla Espagnola was classic comfort food with soft potatoes and sweet onions, and the Pulpo Plantxa had that ideal char while still being tender inside, some of the best grilled octopus we have had.
We were definitely hoping they’d have paella and Basque cheesecake. The waiter mentioned their kitchen is too small to make paella, which makes sense for a tapas-focused spot. During the summer time, for special events, they occasionally offer paella that has been prepared outside. They usually have Basque cheesecake, but unfortunately not the night we went—which just means we’ll have to come back for it.
Overall, it’s the kind of place where you end up ordering one more plate than you planned and leave already thinking about your next visit.
The food is good… real good even.
But walking out of there with 4 1.5″ to 2″ crustinis & a miniature baguette, with a mocktail & cocktail for $100+ is…..a little difficult to except.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to spend money on food… more than anyone should really. But I walked away uncomfortable.
Please enjoy it you want buttery meat with an array of flavors but this is one scenario where you could do the same at home for a fifth of the price.
Drink was decent.
Downside of atmosphere & staff was they put us at a standing table, clearly in the way of server traffic & continued to bump into us. I offered to move or shift to another side & they said no no it’s fine & continued. Odd atmosphere. Small space.
Our server was absolutely fine though. No complaints.
Even though it’s in Beacon Hill, where space is usually tight, the restaurant feels open and comfortable (with outdoor seating available as well). The menus are extensive, both for food and drinks, which makes it fun to try a variety of flavors.
I highly recommend sampling a few pintxos— Caña de Cabra (goat cheese with marcona almonds on a baguette), pan con tomate, and Gildas are all fantastic. The special of the night, lamb chuletas, was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Tapas like the tortilla española, pulpo plancha, gambas plancha, and the hamburguesa Donostia were also highlights.
The prices are elevated, compared to what you’d find in Basque Country, but this is Boston, after all.
Zurito works equally well as a lively group spot or a cozy date night destination. A welcome addition to the neighborhood and one I’ll definitely return to.
Staff is so friendly and seem to genuinely like working there. Hannah behind the bar was great and Nader might give the best food introductions ever.
Can’t wait to go back. Eat all of the things!
Shoutout to Betsy who made my birthday dinner amazing! Highly recommend to anyone!
