Anyway, I’m a slow drinker and was still nursing the manhattan when the pasta came. Not wanting bourbon with my gnocchi I ordered a glass of white wine. (This is where it gets weird), server says “well are you going to finish your drink???” Me: uh… I think so…. Server: “well…” (insert some long convoluted story about it being illegal to serve me a second drink) HUH?!!
Being a lawyer (and former waitress) I was compelled to look it up. Surprise, no such law exists. I kindly inform her. She says she “just took the class” … “2 years ago” She then mentions “stacking drinks” and it dawns on me that she assumed I was trying to get another drink for the HH price rather than assuming I just wanted wine with dinner. It was all weird and I tell her calmly that the experience made me uncomfortable. She apologized and to her credit, comps one of the drinks.
As I reflect on the experience, I note that her generally unwelcome attitude toward me was strikingly different to her demeanor toward other diners. Piecing it together, I can only surmise that perhaps one of my personal characteristics or attributes influenced her actions since I was the only person who looked like me in the establishment. Or maybe something about me triggered a bad memory for her. I sincerely hope Allison’s day improved. Regardless, since I hate being treated differently than the crowd I won’t soon return to this restaurant – The food was pretty good though.
Cheers!
I tried the bolognese pasta and found the pasta to be a bit too chewy and the sauce to be on the sweeter side. It was a little strange for me personally and I wouldn’t recommend that particular pasta to anyone.
I will definitely be back and I picked out my top favorite items so I know what to order when I go there from now on. I just moved to the neighborhood I’m happy to find a place that serves things like oysters and shrimp. Cocktails and crème brûlée. By the way, the crème brûlée was average.
The Kahlúa dessert that my daughter got was kind of messy and I only took one bite. I didn’t like it very much.
I spent about $90 easily just on myself even though we went for happy hour lol.
The pitfalls were in the service. When I asked why the entrees were staggered I was told two things; one that they were pretty busy (there were four tables in the restaurant) and that they serve dishes to be shareable and come out of the kitchen randomly. However, the entrees are plated as single dishes. If they were intended as shareable, they would have put serving utensils in each dish. The first main course of pasta puttanesca arrived 15 minutes before the other entrees. The lamb chop arrived next followed by the chicken. So much for eating together.
We were a party of three who started with the Cesar salad, shrimp cocktail, and bread.. Additionally, we ordered three entrees which arrived over the course of about 20 minutes.
When we asked the server about the chicken “brick” dish, she described it as being like chicken parm. Our friend who ordered it asked if it was light or dark meat. She didn’t seem to know. I said, if it’s quarters, it’s dark meat. Given that chicken parm is typically chicken breast, I can understand the confusion when we’re told it’s like chicken parm. Once it arrived, the sauce was a mishmash of what seemed liked canned tomatoes and pesto with a baked chicken. The chicken was bland as it appeared as if they were cooked separately with no time for the flavors to be integrated.
The meatballs was an $8. add-on to the pasta. They were quite small for an add-on. The pasta was good, although if he would have waited for the rest of the dishes to arrive, it would have been cold.
The pork chop in of itself was the best dish. I liked that the menu said where the pork was sourced. The syrupy sweet fruit compote would have paired better if there was a spicy rub to the pork chop. Otherwise, l suggest letting the natural sugars of the fruit stand alone.
In the end for a $125. bill, I expect more professionalism and knowledge about the menu from the server and better timing in serving the main courses together.
