Mexican counter-serve joint featuring burritos & other classic eats made with local ingredients.

Delicious food that’s like a cross between Costa Vida and Chipotle. But the food tastes more homemade. And the feel of the restaurant is more homey. They were very accommodating of my allergies. This is my daughter’s favorite restaurant and we’ll go back whenever we visit Durango.

Great flavors and reasonable prices at Zia! I got the regular nachos and a bowl, both with carne asada. The meat, salsas, and toppings were very good! On the nachos, the cheese and toppings were all in the center / not distributed, so had to kind of re-engineer the thing to avoid being left with a bunch of chips at the end. For the bowl, I wasn’t told that guacamole is extra, guess I should have assumed from Chipotle. I love and appreciate that they offer washable plates and silverware for eating at the restaurant – lots of places just go disposable for everything, which bums me out. Overall, great food for a reasonable price, but kind of a learning curve for a newcomer.

Great food and a quick line. They definitely need to re eval the seating arrangement. I ended up sharing a 4 seat table with a very nice woman and having a great lunch, but there are far too many large tables for a lunch spot. My burrito was stellar. The mango hot sauce was so well balanced!!!! I will likely go again today.

We came in on a road trip and hit Zia Taqueria after the D&S train.
I got the Tuesday special Chile Relleno, family got tacos, quesadilla, and a super taco.
Food is prepared in front of you while in line. Ingredients were fresh and had good flavor.
If I’m being really picky, my Chile was a little old. It was the last one in the pan. It was still really good though.
They load the food with toppings. They also have locally made specialty soda flavors at the fountain. We tried most of them. The cucumber soda needed some help, but the rest were great.
Would definitely recommend. We had 13 in our party and everyone was happy.

On our way from Flagstaff to Golden, we stopped to have lunch with our nephew who lives in Durango and he highly recommended we join him here. Nephew had a burrito bowl, he got the Tuesday special, chilli relleno, she enjoyed some chips and guacamole. All were freshly prepared and tasty. We sat outside and our Nephew told us the backstory on the local chain. The vibe was very local and was a great stop for a Mexican style lunch. Highly recommend Zia Taqueria.

Popped in here with the grandkids for a bite to eat while visiting Durango in June.
The place was very busy, and smelled like something yummy was cooking!
It’s not a traditional sit-down and someone will take your order place. You’re able to see all the deliciousness as you walk through and pick out what you want.
As usual I got the nachos, and they were scrumptious! The chips were freshly made, and were light and crispy with just a hint of salt! Sometimes chips can be so overpoweringly salty as to be gross. Not these!
The chicken was well cooked and flavorful, and the black beans, cilantro, white rice, and pico de gallo were basically perfect.
The grandkids ordered from the children’s menu, choosing a chicken burrito and cheese nachos.
We also got a carne asada burrito to take to my daughter as she was working. I did not get a picture of it but she raved about it, saying it was in the top three carne asada burritos she’d ever eaten in her life.
There were lots of choices for drink and we had fun mixing our flavors and tasting each one.
The staff was friendly and professional while the restrooms were spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the restaurant.
We enjoyed people watching while they maintained a steady stream of customers.
The next time I am in Durango I will make a beeline for Zia Taqueria, just off the highway location. They also have a restaurant in historic downtown so you have two options to zip in and zip out on your travels.

First time here. The food was barely luke warm, ok at best and way overpriced! $25 for a burrito and a Mexican bowl. If we had gotten drinks, it would’ve cost around $35. The whole experience was disappointing. I doubt I would ever go back.

Do the north and south locations share owners? This south location is so unpleasant. The employees look miserable, the portions are vastly smaller, and the employees are just rude. The last three visits I’ve had to request the “complimentary” handful of chips that followed with an eye roll. If I order online and don’t leave a tip, the portions are almost half the size as walk in. The cookies used to taste fresh now they are hard and feel days old. Sad to see one of my favorite spots go downhill.

Had to wait in line before ordering. Food was made quickly and workers nice. Being from Arizona, had higher hopes on Mexican food. For the price, we weren’t too impressed. But again, service was great!

My friend accidentally navigated us here instead of the other Mexican place we were going to try… but it was a happy accident with a tasty end! I got their beef enchilada special of the day, which was a heaping pile of rich, flavorful food. Chipotle style fast casual but way tastier and more authentic. Price wasn’t bad for what you get. Definitely swing by if you get the chance.
