This use to be a Thai-owned ramen place but became a Lanzhou beef noodle soup restaurant. Super homey, great service (especially our waitress!!) I love the extra options for sharing. Great place for lunch, takeout and a big group after work. Worth a visit. We also tried the osmanthus iced jelly dessert, super unique and refreshing.

Zhi Wei Cafe is a well known Chinese restaurant serving up a wide range of Chinese dishes, such as Lanzhou hand pulled noodles and Suan Cai Yu (Sichuan Sour Pickled Fish). They recently were added to the Michelin Recommended List as well.

We ordered takeout, getting the Buns, Lamb/Beef Skewers, Suan Cai Yu, and the Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles.

The Skewers were good, tender and juicy, the spice wasn’t overwhelming and made the meat somewhat buttery.

The Buns were good, they had the right consistency that we expected from the dish. However, we thought it comes with condensed milk, which ours unfortunately didn’t.

The Lanzhou hand pulled noodles was a solid dish. It had the deep rich flavor that we expected from the broth, though the broth was a little on the saltier side. The meat was good and tender, and the chili oil complimented it.

The Suan Cai Yu was solid as well. The broth had a nice kick to it, but not overwhelmingly numbing or spicy. The sour notes were a little on the mild side, but the entire dish was enjoyable.

Prices are good for the portion size, and the staff are quite friendly as well.

We had such a cozy, relaxing dinner at Zhi Wei Cafe — the perfect place for an unhurried evening with friends.

The dining room feels warm and comfortable with beautiful wooden floors and soft lighting, making it easy to settle in and enjoy your food and conversation. It’s calm, welcoming, and not loud or crowded — exactly what you hope for in a neighborhood gem.

The Lanzhou beef noodle soup was rich and satisfying, while the hand-pulled lamb noodle soup was lighter and delicately flavored, with radish adding a gentle sweetness. The pork soup dumplings were a standout — juicy, perfectly made, and wonderful with the ginger sauce. We also shared the house special hand-pulled noodles, which were full of flavor with a great chewy texture.

A really lovely spot for comfort food, good company, and a quiet night out.

This is a great spot for delicious noodle soup dishes and classic appetizers! Their Lanzhou style noodles have clean broth, chewy noodles, and generous portions of protein. We would love to revisit to try their towering lamb hot pot!

This was such a fun experience and the food was amazing. The Anniversary Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup + Spicy Lamb Skewer and Kumquat Lemon Tea for $18.99! Our server Fanny was very sweet and helpful. The Cold Preserved Cucumber Salad was divine. All together the bill was $50.26. Potions were decent and the meal came with two skewers. Will come back again!

We really enjoyed this warm meal in a cold night! The ice-boiled lamb hot pot is so flavorful and satisfying. It looks bland before boiling, but the taste is far beyond expectations. With the sesame dipping sauce, it’s even more addictive. The tofu cold dish and pumpkin dessert are also tasty. I can’t wait to try more dishes next time.

Best chinese food I’ve had in Boston. Lanzhou la mian and yang rou chuan were top tier, xiaolongbao and you tiao were also very good. Heavily recommend the noodles if nothing else

The noodles here are amazing. I have been throughout the world and the us to know this place can hold a flame next to some excellent places.

I would recommend this place if you’re in the area. The soup dumplings are incredible. I did not care for the lamb pancakes as it was to fatty. The soup dumplings are hand made and reminded me of a place in Philly with the family who created the soup dumpling.

The flavor of the broth attached to the noodles perfectly. The place had a variety of nationalities which to me speaks of respect and a coming together over good food. We are living a divisive age but food has the tendency to unite and bring together.

Great place, support them!

Found this lovely spot through Yelp as it was in walking distance from our hotel and we wanted to explore Chinatown. While not right in the center of Chinatown, it’s close enough to the outskirts – not far from a big transportation terminal. Came a bit late in the evening but the restaurant still had several other tables filled and take out orders being picked up. Inside was nice, quiet, simple, modern. The back wall has a neat history of the Lanzhou beef noodles and certain criteria it must meet. Staff was friendly and helpful in items to try and how to use the tablet to order.

Food came out in a couple stages and all was delish. The soup dumplings were solid but skin was a little thicker than I prefer. The lamb pancake was unique and tasty and honestly pretty filling. The Mala beef with rice was tasty and flavorful but probably the one thing we could have done without ordering (we ordered too much food!!). The Lanzhou beef noodles did not disappoint and the bowl was bigger than my head! The BBQ lamb skewers were tasty and you can’t go wrong with meat on a stick. Definitely a hidden gem just outside the main Chinatown area that you should put on your list.
