Zen Toro in Davis is hands down one of the best Japanese spots in town. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and calm –the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy good food, and never feel rushed. The fish is always fresh and the rolls are beautifully made. You can tell they put care into every dish they send out.
Their specialty rolls are amazing, but even the basics are done well — the miso, tempura, and sashimi all hit the spot. sushi combo A is sooo worth it for the price ($46?), you get so much!! the food is delicious and it isn’t too long of a wait. I don’t know if it’s listed on the menu but we were provided with miso soup while waiting for the rest of our courses. this place is tucked away so I didn’t know about it for a while, but I’m really glad I was able to give it a try.

Unfortunately we aren’t sure what happened if it was our driver or the restaurant! The rolls were not rolled properly and the chicken had a ton of oil and all of our food was touching each other and thrashed around. We always order from here both online and in person and definitely this has made us a little weary as it leaked all over the place. Really sad as their staff is very nice and the food is great! They also forgot our miso soup in our online order ):

Had lunch on 5/3/23 shortly after noon. My Katsu Don was simply delicious and tender. Better than Mikuni. The service was fine. I consider this restaurant to be among the best Davis has to offer.
