Excellent donut, hard to find. I miss the chocolate dough, which was a differentiator between the old Zebra recipe and other donuts. The shop is frequently closed, particularly odd during the town’s 4th of July celebration and Thanksgiving when people are home with family and may want donuts and bread. Coupled with the seasonal shutdown and frequent closures, this is a part-time donut shop. Definitely not what it was.

Always great! Order ahead if you want a lot because they go fast so don’t think you can get a dozen zebras without that order ahead. They go so fast and very early! That being said, there is more to live here other than just the zebras. The tiger tails are also great and the apple fritters…. Oh if you like apples, that’s a must try! My son loves the cinnamon Danish rolls. They also have coffee and drinks and the English muffin bread is very good! I can’t stress it enough to order ahead though! And if you are ordering ahead, consider the giant zebra donut which is a cake. Let’s be real, the thing is massive and I’ve gotten it before for a coworkers departure and my son’s birthday. It’s worth the cost!

A friend and I stopped here when we were in the area because we had heard so much about the zebra donuts. We also tried several of their other donuts. Frankly, neither of us can understand all the hype this place gets. The zebra donut was very heavy and dense. The tiger tail, which is basically the zebra donut but in a twist, was better. The apple fritter was doughy and dense and didn’t have a whole lot of flavor. The basic glazed donuts were good. My favorite thing that I sampled was the raspberry roll, which is like a cinnamon roll, but filled with raspberry jam. A few seconds in the microwave and that was very good. So it really depends on what you order. But their signature zebra donuts were a big disappointment. I’m giving this place four stars because the service was so friendly. And they have free coffee.

The best donuts in the state. Drive 100 miles to get them. Trust me they will still be good when you get home from your cruise. Share them with the family. Doesn’t get any better than this. ♥️

It’s definitely a South dakota treasure. 7am, and they’re already packed with people. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The donuts just hits different, its so good!! Better than any donut shops in sioux falls hands down.

Eh, they were nothing to write home about. Cold and hard.
Wouldn’t waste my time going again. The filled maple stick was the best out of the 5 donuts I got, but even it was meh. Maybe fill it with custard instead of cake frosting…ick.
Not sure why the Zebra donuts are so loved. Tasted like a reg glazed donut.
The lady behind counter was very kind and helpful however.

The best donuts ever – these donuts are what dreams are made of. They are magical. I will travel from all over the world to get these donuts. Excited for Zebra King Donuts to open back up after their winter break 🙂 All that to say, you MUST try these donuts if you haven’t already (also, my faves are the zebra donut and the raspberry rosebud donut – but I also love all of them).

We celebrate all milestones with these donuts. Birthdays it’s the giant Zebra, so amazing. These donuts are worth the trip. Friendly and kind staff, also felt safe while going during the Pandemic.

This place is the platonic ideal of an old-school doughnut shop, and a visit here is, without question, worth the detour off of I-90 or I-29. These are real doughnuts made by real bakers who clearly have a lot of respect for both their product and their customers.

The doughnuts (including the understandably famous zebra) aren’t simply delivery mechanisms for huge amounts of sugar. Unlike the aggressively sweet doughnuts you grab at a grocery store and gas station, you can taste the wheat and yeast and cocoa in Royal Bake Shop’s pastries.

These aren’t sugar bombs and they’re not delicate pâtisserie: they’re straightforward, solid, homey and tremendously delicious. Plus, the service is some of the friendliest, warmest and most welcoming I’ve ever experienced in South Dakota.

This place isn’t just a gem: it’s seriously one of South Dakota’s treasures.

Very friendly and a nice selection of donuts and pastries! On the custard Bismarck they actually cut it open and it is filled properly!! Ya don’t see that every day!! I’ve only known one other place to do that!!
