On Christmas Day, when Christians rightly mark the Incarnation of the world, Zayka Indian Cuisine in Springfield remained open. That a non-Christian house should offer hospitality on a Christian feast is not a contradiction but a quiet fulfillment of it, and deserves Christian approbation. For hospitality, after all, is among the oldest virtues, older than calendars and broader than creeds.

We entered not in celebration but in subdued sorrow. By an unkind arrangement of circumstance, we found ourselves without our child and without family, strangers in a city on a day ordered toward togetherness. Such moments render one acutely aware of atmosphere, of whether a place merely serves or truly receives.

Zayka receives.

The service was conducted with seriousness unmarred by stiffness, and friendliness unspoiled by excess. There was no holiday display, no forced cheer—only attentiveness, patience, and a manner that suggested the dignity of both host and guest was understood and respected.

We ordered the Zayka Special for two and customized it carefully: vegetarian assortment appetizers, goat biryani, lamb karahi, garlic naan, basmati rice, Indian coffee, chai tea, and two desserts. The water cold and crisp, iced well. The meal unfolded with a sense of order and completeness. The goat biryani was fragrant and deliberate, the lamb karahi deep and sustaining, the naan properly warm and indispensable. Nothing clamored for attention; everything was confident in its place. The coffee and chai were offered not as novelties but as consolations, and the desserts concluded the meal as conclusions should—without haste and without excess.

The price was more than fair, which is to say it never intruded upon the experience. One felt not that one had purchased a feast, but that one had been entrusted with it.

There was in the room a quiet love of family, unannounced yet unmistakable, present in the pacing of the meal and the care taken in every small thing. On Christmas Day, this love carries particular weight.

We left and walked arm in arm around the promenade and the Christmas tree, the night calm and reflective, with a deepened gratitude for family and for those places that, when necessity demands, stand briefly in its stead.

The food was good. I had the butter chicken. The spice level he promised he delivered. I also had the pistachio ice cream and it was delicious.

Absolutely fantastic! The flavors of the food were incredible. We got the samosas, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan and butter chicken. All of the dishes were absolutely delicious, the food tasted fresh, rich, tangy and perfectly seasoned. We finished our meal with some chai and it was just such an incredible dining experience. The price was also very fair for all of the high quality food we got. We will definitely be back!

10/14/25 I got another delicious order Chicken Kahari and Pswari nan! Again of course i loved it! Thanks again Zayka for another perfect indian cuisine! (Don’t hesitate to try this place you will enjoy it, theyve got a variety of delicious options!)

The food was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! i came for dinner and had the pswari nan and the chicken karahi. The medium spice blew me but im also not very tolerant to it. The flavors were astonishing along with the presentation. I loved the food, waitress and experience overall, i will be returning to this perfect establishment! (featured is garlic nan which the partner had)

Absolutely fantastic Indian restaurant smack-dab in the middle of America. Indian folks are everywhere these days and it’s really great to see a community embrace their culture instead of pushing to Americanize the place.

I was in for dinner with a business associate who had spent a little time in India (I haven’t been there yet). I started with an Amrut Indian whiskey that was only fair. At a $9 price point it was still only fair. Good thing I came to eat Indian food instead of being there to drink Indian alcohol!

For dinner I ordered Malai Kofta. I’ve never had it before but the menu description is: Homemade Indian cheese, stuffed in vegetable balls & cooked in mildly-spiced creamy sauce with cashews & raisins. The balls were absolutely fantastic but I could have consumed probably one or two more. The sauce was amazingly complex and really flavorful. I ordered it 7/10 on heat and they delivered a dish that was complex and spicy as opposed to just being spicy. Really well done!

Plain naan for the table and Gulab for dessert were both exactly as expected. I would be very happy to try these guys again and order something different. Guessing it would be just as spectacular.

Had a phenomenal time trying several vegan dishes at Zayka. Everything from the samosa chaat appetizer to the main dishes were incredibly flavorful and filling. I had the bindi, tofu malai kofta, bhaigan, and gobi 65 which were mouth watering. On top of that, the owner was very attentive and respectful. We would love to keep coming back! Best Indian vegan food in Springfield!

We ordered food when visiting the area. We ordered chicken Kadai, Chana masala, vegetable biryani, naans(garlic, onion). The curries come with portion of rice. Food was fresh and proper Indian taste. We ordered spicy assuming it won’t be that spicy but it was supremely spicy so I would suggest for even Indian to take medium spice when ordering.
