– All American Bacon Cheese Burger – $13 + $1.50 (upgrade from third to half pound patty): The burger overall was good. The burger patty was a bit smaller compared to other half pound patty burgers I’ve tried, but was juicy. It was almost a smash patty the way it was made (true smash patties are thin to cook faster). It was fairly good quality meat. The toppings were balanced and fairly fresh. The bun is an excellent choice for a burger. It needed a bit of salt and pepper (it tasted flat). You cannot see the bacon in the picture or in person, but it is there and it was the right amount to balance the flavors. Once I did that, the amazing quality of the rest of the burger came alive.
– Fries – $2 extra with the burger that normally comes with chips: The fries were amazing good. Some of the best fries I’ve had in a while and probably my top five in the Grand Rapids area. They are cooked right, battered, and seasoned perfectly. It did have a bit more salt than I usually like, but this time it worked really well and I cannot complain.
Considering the burger and fries came to $16.50+tax, it is a little on the expensive side compared to other half pound burgers and fries out there. Yes, I factored in the bacon.
– Oreo Malt: (yeah, I’m strange). It was delicious beyond a doubt! I had that thing gone in seconds.
– Service: Our waitress was attentive and kind. She made sure we were taken care of. Everyone there seemed to carry themselves very positively.
– Atmosphere: Dark accents including dark wood and stone but lit up nicely. They have tables and chairs as well as booths.
It was remodeled a few years ago and still has that new restaurant feel. I’ve been here a few times in the last 20 years or more and it is a staple for many in the area. It is a friendly force to be reckoned with. The staff are often well connected to each other and their clientele in a friendly way.
– Conclusion: Who doesn’t recommend Russ’?
Visited at 11am on a Monday.
We called ahead to place an order for drive-thru pickup. Yes, we arrived earlier than our scheduled time, but the order hadn’t even been placed yet. I specifically asked for ranch with both meals, and neither one had any included.
We had to leave right away due to another obligation, so I called to let them know. The woman on the phone acknowledged that we did request ranch and admitted it wasn’t included. When I explained that the meals aren’t the same without it, her response was that ranch costs 30 cents and the “most she could do” was refund us 60 cents.
So nothing about the actual inconvenience? Nothing about the fact that the meals were incomplete? Just 60 cents?
What a joke this place has turned into. Poor service, zero accountability, and no regard for customer experience.
Came for another visit on 26 Jul 2024. Great food as always. Great service but a shout out to our server Brooklyn who was very nice and personable. It was a great meal and we felt welcomed.
