Based on the other positive reviews, I gave this restaurant two chances to see if my negative experience was unique to me. I tried it once more today and sadly this will be my last time. Unfortunately, the food is not fresh. It is previously frozen and reheated which not only makes it taste bad, it is concerning with regards to food safety.

1) Bolani – I ordered six of these potato filled flatbread and my husband and I agreed it was inedible–we are not picky eaters. I was concerned I was going to get food poisoning because the potatoes looked brown and I could tell the dough was previously fried and frozen. It looked and tasted like it was made several days ago. I can easily discern the freshness as someone who frequently eats Afghan food at home and at restaurants.

2) Banjaan- eggplant dish. I ordered this months ago and I ended up in the Reston hospital ER due to food poisoning. This was my first time trying the restaurant but I gave it another chance.

I wanted to love this place so much since it’s the nearest Afghan restaurant to me, but I think since it’s in a remote area, it’s not busy enough where they are incentived to make fresh and high quality food. I recommend trying other Afghan restaurants in Sterling and Falls Church, which I rate better for quality of ingredients, taste, and freshness/food safety.

We really enjoyed the dumplings, rice, and spinach, those were our favorites. The lamb didn’t have much flavor, and the eggplant came out extremely fast on a very hot plate, so we weren’t sure if it had been cooked fresh.

I have had good Afghan food in Dubai, London, Boston, NYC, and DC. This is possibly the tastiest Afghan food I have eaten, and the owner-operator is a warm and friendly gentleman. Tastes like lovingly prepared home cooking. Even though we are from across the river in Potomac, we will be back for sure!

I cant say enough good things about Zamrod. Every single thing we tried was tasty and amazing. Loved their Aush soup and samoosa and mantoo appetizers. All their meats were marinated well and were very tasty. Also, loved their subzei! I tried their short ribs special and it was wonderful. We will be back soon!!

Honestly the best restaurant in Great Falls in my opinion. My fiance and I have shared many different dishes here (Zamarod Palow, Aushack Entree and the starter, Kadu Palow, and Combo Kabob) and all have been amazing. My personal favorite being the Zamarod Palow.

The owner is super friendly and remembers you. Service is quick and friendly. They also have a nice little area outside for dining as well. Highly recommend to anyone in the Great Falls. Reston, Vienna area to come try this place out.

It’s a small, beautifully decorated restaurant with outdoor seating.

It was not busy when we went, so the food came out pretty fast and was really good.
The waiter was slightly grumpy, which showed a bit, but he was still nice enough.
We had a Aushack, Sombosa, Combo Kebob & a Kebob Gosfund.
There was also a really nice green spicy sauce that came with the sambosas that went well with the meats.

Will def go again as we’re in the area on wknds.

A friend introduced me to this restaurant this evening. She is a regular, so this may have had a favorable effect on our dining experience; however, the food was excellent and reasonably priced, and the ambience was very pleasant. The restaurant was about half full, and the noise level was still quite acceptable. The owner/waiter was very pleasant. My friend says that service does tend to slow down when the restaurant is busy, so don’t come here if you in a big hurry. It’s a small place, so making a reservation is a good idea.

6/27/2021: I ordered carryout 2 years ago, and I loved the food. I came here for dinner and tried different dishes… Oh my goodness, everything was delicious!! I got the short rib special, and the short rib was so tender. We ordered way too much food that I got 2+ meal of leftovers! He did forget that I ordered the Banjan, and I ended up taking that home.

I ordered the eggplant and the chicken kabob….amazingly delicious!! This is my first time at this restaurant. The owner and chef is very nice and he answered all my questions. His recipes are his mom’s, and I love that because I feel like I am eating home cooked meals. I really enjoyed the decor while waiting for my food. I forgot to ask for sauces, but the food tasted great even without the sauces. I will definitely come back.

Beautiful homey feel. The food is really well made, spices are just right. Their homemade hot sauce is made fresh from the garden- the cardamom ice cream was a sweet top off to a great meal. Their lamb dishes are excellent.

I’ve only gotten takeout. The food is . I ordered the greek salad and eggplant twice. Both are gluten free. The portions are massive. It’s flavorful and fresh. It’s a local spot that doesn’t cut corners on their ingredients. They even grow their own tomatoes and herbs. For what you get you can’t beat the price.
