Five Guys has real competition!
It’s late and I’m starved after working a blue collar day. I’m in the mood for a good burger and pull up to Hamid’s Z Burger location for the first time.
The decor is a love letter to Burger Americana. Their menu reads like a Best Of list; Burgers & Shakes, Hot Dogs & CheeseSteaks, Chicken & Fries. Everything is priced individually, or a la carte.
I opted for a Double Cheeseburger with everything on it except pickles, and a small fry. The whole order was prepared hot and ready within four minutes, surprising for so late at night.
The burger was generously sized and naturally delicious! The fries, though ordered small, were overflowing the bag it came in.
Their Z Sauce is a great addition.
I entered a hungry man and left a grinning fool, ready for my bed.
I absolutely will return! I’d strongly recommend newcomers to this area give Z Burger a chance to impress.

The obvious question is how does anyone decide the rating of any place?
I’m a foodie – which means FLAVOR, freshness, and uniqueness.
But for some ratings, you have to consider that if your staying at the Residence Inn on “E” street – there is nothing else [except a McDonalds ] within a few blocks – and this place is about 50 feet from the entrance.
I got the philly and small fries. see pics.
Food taste and quality was solid. I normally rate that at 3 stars. You get what you expect and it’s GOOD.

I came to Z Burger for a milkshake, burger, and fries on a cheat day, and they exceeded my expectation! From the young woman who took my order, to the kind gentleman who gave me my food special treat when I was leaving, they clearly prize themselves and Amazing guest service and quality experience! I had to drive a little out of my way to come to this location, but I am so glad I did! 5 stars for sure. My milkshake was a 10 out of 10 and the burger and fries were good too! Thank you guys

I don’t visit fast food locations often, but I had a spoil day to give, and the location popped up in my Google search and on my Uber Eats discovery and was rated high. I visited the website, and even though the prices were high, it showcased itself enough to validate my sampling.
I arrived, and I was welcomed. I ordered the double meat bacon cheese burger with z sauce (ketchup, mayo, and spices). With this, I order regular sized seasoned fries and a beverage. I was given a number and I took a seat and the order was brought to me. The location was visibly clean.
The food was great. The regular was a lot more than expected. I was not able to finish it. I went back the next day and order again with a small. The food was tasty and fresh with a hint of authenticity.

American classic hamburger joint! What a pleasure it was to have lunch at Z Burger in McLean, VA. On a very hot day when temperatures were soaring above 100 degrees the folks at Z Burger were serving up creamy milkshakes. I enjoyed the double cheeseburger with bacon and a side of fries. The fries were cooked perfectly with a nice brown crispy to them. The cheeseburger was paired with fresh lettuce, tomato’s, pickles and the freshest buns. Anyone in the area would be a fool to pass up this place for any other hamburgers. Staff was like family with their greetings. I had my food brought to my table and asked it there was anything else I may need. This kind of treatment is only at local establishments that care about their customers. I’ll be back very soon to enjoy one of their mouthwatering milkshakes. Enjoy!

Ordered 2 cheeseburgers and 2 fries and was only given one fry. The best thing about the order was the chocolate shake. Not worth the money. The burgers were messy and should have something so they don’t get squished in bag. I won’t come to this location again.

My sister & I went to try the breakfast because we enjoy breakfast anytime. As soon as you walk in the staff are so friendly & they serve you right away! We both ordered omelets & home fries, per the gentleman’s suggestion (I asked ). Even though it is a walk-up diner, the staff kept on bringing us our food & asking us how we are doing. The food was outstanding & made with love, you can tell! The restaurant was clean, inviting, & comfortable. Thanks to the owner for his great time & attention given to this location!

Always a solid bet for great burgers, fries and shakes. You also now have the Persian/Kabob “Mama Joons” as well here. The employees are always so friendly. Peter, the owner, has 15 different restaurants, and is always visiting each one and meeting the customers as well as making sure to spend time with his employees. Truly is a well run business providing amazing and delicious food. Parking is in the rear or on the side street.

Parking was easy. Upon entering there’s two separate registers, which after a moment I figured out was because there’s two separate restaurants here. What’s confusing is where do you enter the line? There were multiple people at whatever the other restaurant is, and a group at the Z Burger line, so I couldn’t enter either and stood off to the side.
After the customer ahead of me was done, the employee answered the phone and took an order, it was a bit off, as I’d been waiting several minutes. Once it was my turn to order, I could not hear anything the employee was saying. The acoustics in that section are horrible. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger single, legendary burger, shared an order of frings, and each had a shake (Rocky Road, Oreo). The total came to $49.10. Honestly, it’s a bit excessive, but whatever.
The food came out fairly quickly. The burgers were great. Crispy bacon, fresh toppings on the burgers. Burgers were absolutely delicious. Better flavor and texture than Five Guys, and not as sloppy and greasy as Big Buns. Onion rings were crispy and very good. Fries were standard issue, and floppy. The shakes arrived about ten minutes after the food, and we were about finishing when they did. That makes absolutely no sense. There was one person on the Z Burger register who was also the only one making shakes. There were multiple people on the grill, so it’s really just a division of labor issue. If someone was on shakes, another on the register, and the rest on the grill, it would have worked much better, and been more balanced. However, the shakes were also awesome.
I would definitely not recommend dining in, at least until they figure several of these issues out. I’m uncertain that I would order takeout either, as the cost just isn’t worth it.
I’ve posted a lot of reviews, and generally don’t post negative ones, because there’s enough negativity out there. This is an exception because the experience and atmosphere were confusing, snd frustrating.
