Reviews
This place is chipotle style where you pick what you want for your bowl. The protein options are delicious! You can tell they are slow cooked, tender and juicy. Their rice is so delicious!! I have to point this out because a lot of restaurants mess up rice but theirs is always fluffy with a great taste to it.
My rice also gets moist from the protein broth, like I said seems like they are slow cooked .
I wish they had homemade pickled onions and maduros.
This place needs social media so people know how great this is!
There is no seating, so this is a take-out place only. Pick up food on the way to work, or dinner on the way home. They are closed Wednesdays and Sundays.
STEP 1: RICE OR SALAD BASE
We tried the regular rice and the seasoned rice. Both types were scooped from the same rice pan. For the seasoned rice, the flavor was drizzled on from a dressing bottle. The consistency and flavor of rhe rice was good.
STEP 2: PROTEIN
We tried the steak and tofu. The kalbi (steak) was delicious, and cubed in nice bite-sized pieces. The tofu was 1 large piece. It was cooked flavorfully, but I found the large piece difficult to eat with chopsticks. I would have liked it to be cubed into bite-sized pieces like the steak. Also, it seemed extra salty to me.
STEP 3: TOPPINGS
We tried tomatoes, jalapeños, garlic, green onions, cabbage, carrots, kimchi, seaweed salad, and diakon. All the toppings were good. Here, it is your preference for flavor combinations, but in my opinion the jalapeños did not blend well with the other flavors. The fresh vegetables were great. The toppings offered seem to vary from day to day, with quite a few more options available than what is just shown on the printed menu. For instance, there was cucumber kimchi in addition to the regular (cabbage) kimchi listed. I’ve noticed that the business owner lists some of these supplemental toppings on the business Facebook page. However, I did not see them posted inside the store. A list of all toppings would have been helpful. You can look in the prep counter and see the toppings that are available, though (think Subway counter). The person who helped us at the counter was quite friendly and explained any toppings we were unfamiliar with. He seemed to indicate that he had prepared them himself.
STEP 4: SAUCE
We tried 3 different sauces (spicy mayo, barbecue, and yummy sauce). All three sauces were good. The flavors of a lot of the toppings would have made a tasty rice bowl without adding any sauces, so you may want to consider adding sauces if you have more bland selections (plain rice with carrots and cabbage), or being careful of adding sauces that combine too many flavors if you have more seasoned selections (like the seasoned rice with marinated steak, garlic and, seaweed). I could have skipped the sauce and still had a ton of flavors in my rice bowl.
Overall, I recommend this place and plan to return to try more items on the menu.
