Loved the food. The dim sum was very good. Har gow was yummy and the seafood fried rice and scallop dumplings and shu mai was so good. I have to say the service was a bit tough. It took forever for me to pay, it felt like I was being ignored. I was just surprised because there were plenty of workers. Overall a good experience.
One liner: slightly above average dim sum that has minimal wait time to be seated
Wait: 50-75% full on a weekday. Weekend not so sure.
Parking: self, plenty
Ambiance: typical Chinese restaurant, a little nicer than most
Service: professional and attentive. They kept changing our plates constantly which is rare at other dim sum places.
Food: Cantonese style food with focus on dim sum
Sui mai & har gow- good size but not as tasty as lunasia and chef Tony in San Gabriel valley area. Maybe on par with new capital in Rowland heights
I agree with another reviewer that their pastries are pretty good. The egg tart was excellent.
Bathroom: decent. Carpet leading to bathrooms should be changed to match the main dining area
Price: slightly more expensive than new capital, but much more affordable than lunasia and chef Tony.
So, like many of my lunches with my boyfriend’s family, his Mom always puts us in good hands by ordering nearly one of everything. The only items I was really looking forward to eat were the steamed shrimp in rice rolls, chicken feet and Chinese broccoli. Those are typically my staples every time I eat dim sum. You just gotta have them!
On the table: 2 orders of steamed shrimp in rice rolls, chicken feet, Peking duck, duck lettuce wraps, braised spare ribs, 2 orders of shumai, crispy taro dumpling, Chinese broccoli, 2 orders of hargow and 3 orders of mango pudding.
I was pleasantly surprised by how the duck was prepared. They presented all the crackling skin to be wrapped in a bao with scallions and hoisin sauce, and then the rest of the meat was made into a stir fry for lettuce wraps. A new experience for me and it was really good.
The only downfall of this restaurant was lack of service. We asked for water three times and tea wasn’t promptly refilled either. It was really hard to flag someone down to so his mom basically yelled at them to get their attention. Food overall was average and nothing spectacular stood out besides the duck. If I had my choice, I’d rather go to Seafood Village for dim sum. At least the wait is worth it!
Food Quality definitely went down hill and plummeted to lowest level. Last time I had during COVID years was much better. The last visit’s experience was meh. The har gao is a 4 out of 5 – flavor in shrimp is there but the exterior is over steamed. Pork bun (oven) was good at 5 out of 5. Tripe and Shiu Mai at 3. Lor mai gai (lotus leaf wrapped chicken rice) was the worst clocking a 2 out of 5 – it tasted like the ones you microwave from the frozen packet.
Atmosphere and service is still good during busy lunch hour.
May give this place another shot in the winter to see any improvements, but last visit was definitely disappointing.
We had to wait over 30min to get our credit card back cause they forgot about us. Would have given 3 stars if not for that.
Food quality is middle of the road. I think their pastry dishes are probably the best so treat yourself to a nice dessert.
Dishes to avoid:
-XLB (pork soup dumplings) are no bueno. Comes in a mini egg tart tin, but has barely any soup and no flavour
-Rice roll Chinese donut (hard dry donut, really sad to look at)
