[2025-11-18 TUE update] Since SEP 2014 (before CoVID), we were Yakitori Yuchan, a Japanese izakaya that specialized in sumiyaki kushiyaki (meat, seafood & vegetable skewers grilled over Japanese binchotan charcoal). Since MAR 2020 (during CoVID) in compliance with county health restrictions, we pivoted to a to-go only menu that primarily featured donburi (rice bowls) & ramen (noodle soup). Since JUN 2022 (exiting CoVID), we rebranded as Yuchan Shokudo to continue specializing in donburi, ramen & rotating specials (e.g., yoshoku pasta, teishoku, etc.). Since AUG 2023 (post-CoVID to now), we showcase special quasi-monthly dinner events that featured sumiyaki kushiyaki. More information at our new website, yuchanshokudo (dot) com.

If ever back to davis ill have to go here again
The Takoyaki was delicious, although lukewarm when served to us, so we had to start eating it quickly before getting cold. Getting into the main courses, although the quality of the ramen was to our satisfaction, we couldn’t get over how pricey and small portioned our food was, having only been served one slice of pork, and half an egg in my bowl.
I personally do not plan on coming back, as I know other places which serve larger portions at a much cheaper price. Perhaps it’s due to location (Davis)? Not entirely sure…
There is a new special every time we’ve been here and we have always left happy.
My favorite was the spicy mentai-men (a la mentaiko pasta). The seafood butter sauce was so flavorful, the noodles perfectly al dente.
Pork chop pepper curry rice was delightfully curry, nicely crisp fried pork chop (nicely fatty).
We walked in and were warmly welcomed. You order and pay first before being seated. The employee was very kind and clear with the menu and made sure we had all our questions answered. I like how they have the normal menu along with special items with pictures and descriptions so you know exactly what you are getting. My friends got the ramen and I got the chicken katsu curry plate. The plate is actually massive (can feed two people) and was around $20 so you are definitely getting a good portion for what you paid. The curry was beautifully made with great flavor, accompanying the thinly perfectly fried katsu with juicy chicken in between, all combined to eat with the warm rice. Even though this is mainly a ramen place, they went above and beyond with this katsu.
