I love breakfast. And, I stopped at Yo Mama’s for brunch. I left disappointed.
I spent $20 for cafeteria coffee and food. The coffee was self serve from a Bunn carafe siting on the burner. I had to use a Chinet to-go cup. The coffee tasted like basic gas station or cafeteria coffee.
I also ordered the French toast with two patties of sausage. The French toast was soggy on the bottom, had a pedestrian sprinkle of powered sugar, and came with a small (not enough) plastic cup of “homemade syrup.” The syrup was blended with something. The toast was simply not up to par.
The atmosphere is much lie a college cafeteria. I could get past that if the food hit. But, it did not.
I was disappointed because I was hungry and the reviews, now I know, were misleading.
Breakfast is easy to get right. They did not. Some might say I should have tried more items. But, this isn’t my first rodeo trying new places. My experience is that when one item is prepared in such a haphazard, that this is foundational to the approach to food.
Edit: The owner has commented that ALL their fried food is gluten free! I assumed since the menu states fried foods have a gf option that there was a “regular” option as well. I have also updated my review on the FindMeGF app to reflect this information.
I ordered the barbecue burger minus the barbecue sauce (as I’m not a huge fan of bar sauce on my burgers). Which came with a side of fresh hand, cut fries and added a sweet tea.
We sat down and within five minutes, our food was delivered as ordered . I must tell you I’ve eaten burgers in a lot of places, but this was by far one of the best burgers I have had in my life. I don’t know what about the flavor was so good but it was outstanding. The fries had a seasoning on them which complimented everything and the sweet tea was homemade southern sweet tea.
my coworker got the fried chicken and said her meal was also delicious.
if you’re ever in the area, give these folks a shot you will not be sorry. It might even be on my list for tomorrow’s lunch ( here traveling for work).
They have THE best chicken wings, fried catfish (hands down), shrimp and grits, and don’t get me started on the catfish sandwich (you gotta ask for that one, or get it at their sister restaurant Onabun), waffles (yes they have those, pancakes, biscuits, and cornbread gluten free).. mmm it’s good! The food is to die for!
We take picky people here that are skeptical of gluten free food.. and they can’t take their heads out of the dish long enough to talk while they’re eating. It’s that good!
My kids taste catfish anywhere else and say, “This ain’t catfish!”. But they love everything at Yo Mamas!
I can’t say enough good things about it because the food really is that good. But especially if you have to have gluten free: you will be addicted. Like, seriously addicted. You can eat anything fried, biscuits, waffles, pancakes, buns.. FRIED OREOS!! And they sell gluten free desserts at the counter too. And we have eaten there faar more times than we can count and have never gotten sick!
The staff are friendly and treat us like family. It’s just the best! Nowhere else compares!
