I got to go lunch. The dogs are very reasonably priced and tasty. I got the cheddar dog and yesterdog. The service was friendly and quick. I saw that Josh and Jace tried to go, but they were closed. That’s what brought me here. If I’m near Grand Rapids, I’ll go again.

The way the staff accommodated my group of 9 on a Sunday with no call ahead was amazing. The food was amazing, just what we needed and more, we kept going back for seconds. Very charismatic and fun crew you have here! 5/5

Ok so I heard a lot about this place! A staple in East Grand Rapids forever! Has a rich history on the wall, stories and people’s lives! Many people grew up here! I did not. The atmosphere and decor was cool, vintage and you’re able to scribble your name or whatever and add to the history! Nice! The Hot dog toppings, chili and Kraut, pickles were good and welcomed, being different.
The quality of the hot dog itself was HORRIBLE! I’m just being honest! Small and not flavorful. I am glad I tried it and had the experience. I even left my Mark! But the mark it left in me was not one I will be experiencing again! Try it once for yourself, maybe you grew up on it and that’s what you expect from a hot dog! But not for me! Best of wishes to the new owners! I met them! Nice people and I am sure they will have continued success since their following is established, just not for or from me! Unless a hot dog change is in the future!

Love LOVE LOVe ❤️ this place NEVER disappoints. I have been going for over 20 years. I love that there prices are still affordable for a family to come eat, and especially love the atmosphere and that they haven’t changed anything inside keeping the old vintage feel. More places should bring it back. My kids love the working pay phone inside and all the neat things on the walls. My 7 year old likes that he can throw change into the tip thing on the wall.

Came here on my last night in GR and I don’t regret it! I got one of each type of hot dog (besides the veggie dog), and it was a flavorful experience. The best ones were the ones with chili in them. The restaurant is fast casual – they quickly take your order and they make everything in front of you. My friends all said it was the best place in town to get hot dogs, and I can’t say they’re wrong!

Classic hot dog joint that is well worth the money you spend.
– Cheddardog – $3.80: Simple chili and cheese dog, but oh so good. The bun is great quality. The dog is fresh and juicy. The chili was fresh and good, but a bit liquidy and sloppy. The cheese was just right. It was served on a plastic glove, which was odd.
My son and I both agreed it was well worth the price. It is a no brainer. The value is phenomenal. No wonder this place is famous.
– Service: Immediate, fast, and helpful. They were to the point, but still asking questions to be sure I didn’t miss anything (chips and drink). They did not pressure at all, were super helpful, and kind. The dog was ready almost before I paid for it.
– Atmosphere: Old diner feel. Has a lot of graffiti and carvings on the walls. There is a very old vinyl jukebox. It looks like it still works, but I cannot confirm that. It has the feel of being worn and tattered with age, but still fully functional and kept up very clean. The neighborhood is a bit questionable. I don’t remember there being music played, but it could have been.
– Conclusion: I think most of Grand Rapids would agree with me. You need to visit this place once if not make it a regular hang out. It’s worth it.
Visited on a Friday at 9pm.

This place is 5 stars but I have heard complaints from people who come in expecting an artisanal experience (often people visiting) rather than what this business is trying to do. Look, I’ve had a 30 dollar hot dog before, and it was amazing, vastly superior to anything Yesterdog makes it was also almost 27 dollars more expensive. The most expensive dog you’re going to get here is $3.80. They will only be a modest (but very noticeable) upgrade to something you can make at home if you wanted to gather all of the ingredient and take all that time yourself. They’re sloppy, the buns are not baked at the location, and the meat itself is tender and tasty but very deliberately tries to replicate that sloppy, efficient, salty kind of vibe of a kind of dog you may find at the supermarket, albeit (in my humble opinion) much better quality. So why is it 5 stars? Because the final product is made perfectly for what it is, something affordable, something a teenager out at 2am could buy with their friends when hanging out around the area, and something that scratches a sloppy salty itch better than just about anything else. So no, you’re not going to get this artisanal, immaculate hot dog, there are places that offer higher-standard dogs not too far away. One Stop Coney and Grand Coney are two places that are definitely closer to that upscale hot dog experience if you want a distinguished product, but the prices will be higher, and in the case of One Stop Coney, the hours will not be nearly as ideal (although, Grand Coney is 24hr which is awesome but the location isn’t nearly as hip and happening and the vibe is not nearly as good). For what they’re trying to do, they do it perfectly, but people don’t seem to always understand that they’re not trying to give you that 30 dollar house made hot dog experience. They’re giving you crazy late hours, low prices, fast service, and an immaculate vibe. I swear, I read a new review for this place like a couple of times a year where they say something like, “my friends ranted and raved about this place but when I went the food was not nearly as good as I thought it would be,” and all I can say is those friends that ranted and raved about it did you and Yesterdog a grave disservice. They misled you about what this place is about. It absolutely deserves ranting and raving, and it absolutely deserves the love and legends it gets from the locals. But yeah, don’t go there expecting the hot dog quality to blow your mind. It’s about having something to do late at night that’s affordable and still excellent quality for the price and good service. I think if you go in with the right expectations, you will have a great time 100% guaranteed. If you expect something out of this business that they’re not trying to do, then yes, you may end up disappointed (although a lot of people really do find their flavors and ingredients to be perfect as-is). But I can’t recommend it enough, despite my lukewarm words above, I just wanted to address the common complaints, hence my restraint. But, please check this place out, they deserve your business and your time. It’s so much fun just to hang out and look at all the old graffiti and interesting antiques they have decorating basically every square inch of the place. It’s so nice to just stop in while enjoying the East Town vibe late at night and grab something super cheap, super quick, but still makes you go “mmm” when you bite into it. They’re one of my favorite businesses in West Michigan, honestly. I’m really glad I’ve been able to enjoy what they offer both as I grew up and when I moved back. Every city I’ve lived in has had some cool cultural area to hang out at and enjoy a very deeply unique vibe that you can only find in that city, and Yesterdog (and the East Town area at large) is definitely one of those places. There are other cool places to check out around GR and the West Side is where it’s at these days. But Yesterdog is a good reminder of why East Town was such a cultural phenomenon when I was growing up. Check this place out, it’s very dear to me!
