Tucked inside the Golden Hour bar, this restaurant is a total hidden gem. As a fellow Asian, I was surprised at the quality of Asian food the restaurant is churning out and must say very impressed. Also as a vegetarian, I absolutely loved the plethora of vegetarian options available to me.

First off the atmosphere is so great. I love the bar vibes and interior – it is cozy and slightly more upscale than a dive bar with comfy chairs. They have a pool table and dim lighting but not too dark where I need a flashlight to see what I am eating. We came on a Wednesday night and it wasn’t too crowded and we were able to find a table for 6. You just find a table, sit down and order via QR code and someone brings you the food.

The dishes I got included yellow Ranger fries which were really sliced potatoes that were perfectly crispy served with aioli and chili crisp and was absolutely delicious. I also got the Dan Dan noodles with tofu which was a good size portion – the tofu was perfectly crisp and the noodles were Al dente and the sauce was pretty good though I wish it had just a little more sesame paste. As a table we shared the black garlic queso and oh my gosh was that delicious I was worried the black garlic may overpower the queso, but it didn’t and added a nice umami punch without making it overly salty.

Drinks wise that’s where the bar comes in and they do have a water station.

Parking is free with lot attached and it is small so there was plenty of street parking as well.

Also the reviewers rating the place lower because of QR code menu is very strange to me as since COVID I feel most restaurants have shifted to using QR codes to browse menus and order. We came in as a group of 6 and we all found it much easier to order via QR code and individually pay for our own food. Not sure why others had issues with it. We all have our phones and printed menus often come stained/items out of orders/prices aren’t accurate.

A friend took us here Saturday night and wow, I’m sad I’d never been.

Good vibes, cheap drinks (especially for in Austin, and pretty good food as well. I had a few $3 cream ales and also tried my fiance’s iron whip and everything was pretty solid.

For food, we split a few things between 3 people: queso, burger, and I think the 3rd thing was the Signature Taiwanese Fried Chicken in garlic sauce with crispy Thai basil. I liked the umami touch on the queso and was surprised at how good it was. The burger and chicken were both great and the service was relatively fast too.

Overall, a solid experience and we’ll definitely be back.

everything was so tasty and balanced and i really wasn’t expecting such deliciously rich food to come out of a bar. they absolutely killed it. the loaded fries were insane as well as the shishito peppers and chinese cabbage. can’t wait to go back and try everything on the menu!

Price does not match the portion I’m used to for Asian food. I paid $16 for like 8 pieces of General Tsao Chicken that weren’t even big portions of chicken and small scoop of rice. Don’t expect Panda Express prices but would expect a better portion of food. Crab ragoon were OK but filling was moderate and didnt really care for the taste that much. Did enjoy the General Tsao but $24 was a crazy price for the amount and mediocre ragoons. Doubt I’ll be back. Feels like shrinkflation prices. I also find the pricing suspect as it was $24 no change but your receipt will show a different price for the food and then add the tax to total $24. Never seen this type of charging before. Maybe I’m just old.

I am not big on technology and never scan QR codes if I can avoid them. David was willing to show me the menu and gave a detailed explanation on what each menu item entailed. He patiently answered all of my questions about the ingredients. He said I could sit anywhere and he would bring it out once it was ready. Listen. I was the one that was not ready. I ordered the crab rangoons and pork egg rolls thinking I would eat some and save the rest for tomorrow’s lunch. That didn’t happen. From the first bite, I was I knew I was going to smash the entire meal in one sitting. They had delicious chili pepper sauce for dipping, but neither appetizer required it At ALL. I did my happy food dance multiple times without a care who saw me. The shells were crispy but not burned and the seasoning was divine. David came back to check on me and I appreciate how down to earth he was. He told me the back story of how they started and that they plan to open a 2nd location down South soon. Each of the founders worked in a different restaurant within the industry and I think that their raw skill and talent are evident in each bite. I love their decor and the overall ambiance of The Golden Horn is super relaxed. There was baseball on one screen and a movie on the other. If I decided I wanted to burn off some calories, there is a pool table and 2 dart boards. Everybody was friendly and from all walks of life. Annnnd the drinks from The Golden Horn are auh-mazin to wash it all down. I can’t wait to go back and try something new. And def can’t wait to get a t-shirt to rep them out in public and share the good news.

Zero fluff, best experience I’ve had with a restaurant here in Austin. Food, service, humans, vibe, communication, everything was S Tier.

Passion is a huge driving force behind my radar for good food as an experience. These guys are the kind of passion I feed off of (not pun intended), and hearing the love for the art of making good food from them got me so excited before food showed up at our table.

The food matched and exceeded my expectations. I had General Tso – because it’s something you know will tell you about the quality. It blew me away. It’s a TOUGH dish to execute in the right ways for people who take their food choices seriously. It was maximally flavorful, cooked perfectly, fragrant as though it knew I was looking for the smokiness of wok fried chili peppers that seemingly never arrived at the kit-grade take away spots we all have had. The pork egg rolls were so unique I almost wish it had its own new name, so goo. And the QUESO…holy experience. I also ordered smashed cucumbers w/ my general tso and it should be a requirement IMO.

The location itself is really cool, I’m not huge into social eateries being from busy AF NJ/NYC (we like to get in, eat in peace, or take to go) but this place was fantastic. Never felt overwhelmed or unwanted. Just good vibes! Even the door guy was awesome.

We showed up with 10 people and were taken care of so well, checked in on regularly, chatted with despite the place being busy as can be on a Wednesday night, and food came out mas rapido.

Go here for the food, and enjoy the blessing.

Cool vibe, food was great but most importantly the service was amazing the owner I believe or head chef?

He was kind, attentive and even gave us extra rice as treat for our to-go!
So happy to support an establishment who cares about human justice on top of that

Will be taking friends and family here!

I went here on a Sunday night for dinner and was surprised by how good the food was! We ordered the queso dip with wonton chips, general tso chicken, and dan dan noodles. Everything was delicious and good portion size, however the price was a little high for the entrees.
They have a great selection of vegetarian dishes and are willing to accommodate other dietary needs.
The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was a fun 70s theme with old beer lights, a pool table, and darts.

Food is well designed and thoughtful. Very multidimensional, don’t let the fact it’s in a bar discourage you. Tried 4 sides, all were amazing. The fries were perfectly cooked and garnished, and probably the best fries I’ve ever had.

I got the new OG burger with a side of fried rice. The burger was so salty – it was quite unpleasant to eat. I couldn’t even finish it. And then the fried rice had no flavor and was visually unappealing. The appetizers are the only good thing here, everything else just seems to taste the same. The food quality is very inconsistent and doesn’t match the price you’re paying.
