The best tamales in the Rio Grande Valley. We have been enjoying Ybarra’s since the 1979! They opened a new shop in North Brownsville. The beef and raisin, pork, and chicken are outstanding. The salsa is also incredible. This is a must have if you’re visiting Brownsville. The tamales were a favorite of Nelson Rockefeller. 5 out 5 strong.

Writing this review before I even receive the food because the friendliness and customer service of this place is amazing. A welcoming gentleman at the front to take orders, felt like if I’ve been here before and was visiting a friend. That kindness in itself is hard to find nowadays so I had to write a review.

Overpriced expensive tamales. Not even Delia’s have them at such high prices. $13 for a dozen of regular tamales? (By regular I mean not the special kind with cheese and/or other toppings) And $9 for half a dozen. I was going to order more as I usually like buying a dozen of each but for such a high price I had to reconsider and just take 1 dozen. Got the pork, they do taste good but not for that price, you’ll expect more. Maybe it is just me, but I remember buying regular tamales for no more than $10 a dozen

I apologize for being late at posting. On Dec. 20th, we lost our beloved mother suddenly. Having to deal with all the arrangements was overwhelming. On the 21st I called Ybarra’s tamales hoping to be able to place an order to have available for the viewing and rosary on the 22nd, but I knew it might not happen due to Christmas orders that were placed weeks in advance. The lady took my name and number and I advised her if they could make us any kind of tamales it would be very appreciated. She took my # and said she would talk to the ladies and call me the next day. Well she did. These ladies and the business went above and beyond by actually making tamales for us to have for the viewing. From the bottom of our hearts, we THANK YOU!! ❤️. I know how busy y’all must have been and probably staying late, but I am so Grateful and I appreciate all of you so much. May the Lord bless you all and may you have a happy and prosperous year. Your tamales are delicious!!! Everybody loved them and asked where they were from. We had ordered some the month before with pork & raisins, chicken & raisins and a few other dozens of different types. My mom loved the ones with raisins. It had been years since she had those tamales. She remembered her childhood.

First time buying tamales here I got the pork tamales they have no flavor they don’t even add salt to them they are tasteless Bland a warm tortilla from the gas station and one of the chicken legs that they make at the gas station valero has a lot more flavor and more fulfilling I do not recommend this tamales
