The Yarborough Family welcomes you to our historical restaurant and ice cream shop. Our Grand Father Phil C Yarborough started the business Fairview Dairy in 1926. Then in 1935 he added an ice cream parlor and grill in the same building. The name The Fairview Dairy Bar. In 1956 his son Carol M Yarborough who had worked there since childhood took over the dairy and bar. In 1973 the dairy was sold and he expanded the whole building in to a restaurant. The name was changed to Yarborough Homemade Ice Cream and Grill. He retired at the age of 86 and now his sons Michael and Tim run it. If you want to go back in time and have some of the highest quality food and legendary homemade ice cream! Come see us. Hopefully the trip will be worth it……

We really enjoyed this place! It was like stepping back in time. There were antique ice cream and soda themed decorations all around. The lady at the counter was kind. We placed our order, fixed our drink then picked a table to wait for them to bring our food. Everything was really tasty. After we were done eating, we grabbed some ice cream. It was very delicious as well!

Yarborough’s never disappoints. I brought a couple of friends from Fayetteville here for lunch yesterday. Both ladies loved it, just as my family has for the 16 years I’ve lived here. The staff are always very kindhearted and expedient and the food is deliciously simple without being plain – it makes me feel like I’m back home enjoying a cookout with my family. Last, but never least, the homemade ice cream is sinfully delectable and impossible to skip. I highly recommend the banana pudding and praline and cream flavors, but also fell in love with the eggnog ice cream. If you enjoy the Cookout eggnog milkshake, skip it and go to Yarborough’s. It is perfectly creamy and flavorful, but not too rich or sweet. Absolutely 10/10 for every visit.

So the ice cream is really good but the place seems very dirty the restroom was disgustingly dirty seemed like it hadn’t been clean in a while I ordered a hot dog combo that came up to $6 and some change for some reason it took like 30 min to be ready the fries were really bland and the amount was not as much would definitely not recommend eating there .

It bothers me to say the following because small businesses are very important for our communities. Unfortunately I have to say do not come here! The food is as ultra processed, equal to, or worse then McDonald’s. The ice cream is purely chemicals and preservatives. The food is not safe for your kids.

Their burgers and fries are really good, but the food takes a while to come out.
The ice cream is good, and the portion sized for the price is a great deal.

Yarborough’s Home Made Ice-cream is the absolute best! I had the coconut/pineapple Ice-cream. It had coconut and pineapple bits in it. The Ice-cream was smooth and tasted wonderful. I also had a chocolate chip cookie. There were giant pieces of chocolate in it. I recommend this store for dessert.

This place is an absolute nugget! We stumbled onto it while passing through Sanford and were looking for a good grill / diner. We were very impressed! From the cordial friendly way we were greeted when we walked in the door, to the owner bringing us a sample of his peach ice cream that he only makes one month each year – you just couldn’t ask for a more welcoming atmosphere. Been in business since the 1920’s and making ice cream since the 1930’s and I’d say they have it perfected. My wife had a cheeseburger that was hand-pattied and fresh. I saw them cooking bacon and couldn’t resist getting a BLT and some fries. Rounded it out with a cup of the peach ice cream for dessert, although they have many more flavors to choose from. Fantastic meal at a great price in a friendly (and busy) atmosphere. We will definitely be back again when traveling through Sanford.

The burgers we had here tasted pretty spot-on to 80s/90s lunchroom cafeteria burgers, it was not to my liking and I only took a couple of bites before deciding it wasn’t worth the calories. The corn dog was pretty good, surprisingly sweet.
The ice cream was okay, but not particularly rich or unique. I’d say if you want the flavors of mid-20th century Americana, this is a good place to get it.
Edit to review: reduced a star after seeing owner responses to other reviews and reading how the owner speaks badly of their staff. I will definitely not be returning.

Love this place but petty placing one star temporarily. Their winter hours say grill closes at 7:30pm but they were trying to wrap it up at 7:15pm with people actively in line. 7:22pm when I reached the counter and got turned away.

Outstanding chef. He’s Outstanding. Above and Beyond. Even brought out our food and they were busy. Excellent food. I’ve always had excellent food good quality and delicious food. But please check in on what’s going on? The last two weeks I’ve been there three times two times on double Bacon I received no bacon the first time I said something nicely I was looked. At like I was lying. Even came out to my table to pull apart burger to look. Then today. 12/1/25 no bacon plus water $30 cent’s.. install nu.aqua filtration system 7 stage UV light install for water drinker’s. Otis Lilly Installed ours $300 bucks for filtration system. That Sanford water was terrible. Thank you.
