This is a no-frills Japanese take-out style establishment. I have been eating here for years and the food quality has always been good. The food options have expanded over time, and I have never been dissatisfied. The service is on par for take-out type restaurants, though they have always been friendly and willing to chat. It doesn’t look like much, but it gets consistent local traffic. If you eat-in, you will see a steady flow of patrons.

Update – added photos. It has been 4 years since my last review. They are still going strong with consistent service, consistent taste, and good value. They are still a local favorite and I would still be eating here regularly if I hadn’t moved further away. Recent remodel of the interior made a nice impression.

New update: Ordered steak and shrimp and got 6 shrimp. Asked for extra yum yum, got none. Very disappointed.
I ordered food on a Sunday. There was no problem, got my food fast and I enjoyed it! The staff all seemed very happy. I ordered food today and met the infamous red headed man. He wasn’t terrible but also didn’t make folks feel welcome and generally had a half-care aditude. The prices could be a touch lower. The food itself is decent quality. If the weekend staff was here during the week, and the prices came down a touch, I could easily eat here multiple times a week. Sadly though I probably will try somewhere else for a bit.

We love coming to Yamazato! The food is fresh and wicked good! John was super fun and and kind. We enjoyed the hibachi shrimp, hibachi steak and chicken and the hibachi yakasoba ! Again, amazing! Glad we live fairly close. . We will definitely be back!!
