Confused, was looking for korean restraunt and there was lots of pics and reviews of Korean food. They had two things on the menu, korean short ribs and bugolgie beef. Both great but no kimchi or bimbop. Find out new owners, new menu. Needs to be relisted. Good food just not much korean anymore.

This restaurant in just down from a family members place, so we thought we could give it a try. The first time we went it was pretty good. Enough so that we chose to try it again a few months later.

I visited here with my sister with high hopes. We heard great feedback on the internet about Yama San and couldn’t wait to try their food. The ambiance was lovely and the tea we ordered was good, but that’s where our compliments end. The calamari we got was disappointing. It looked amazing, but the flavors didn’t match the exterior. The breading drowned the calamari, the calamari when you finally got to it was tough. It was like eating rubber and was unlike any calamari I have ever eaten. The citron roll we got was dowsed in ponzu. It was the only thing you could taste on the roll. The second roll we got was the tiger roll. That roll was good. Just good, there was nothing spectacular about the roll to make it worth $15. Then the last roll we got was the baked scallop roll. Honestly that roll was a mess. It was just too much. You might as well have brought out a fork because it was just a mound of creaminess and scallops. You could barely taste anything besides the cream cheese it was a big let down. Sometimes this could all be redeemed by good service, but I could count the amount of times our server came over to check on us using only three of my fingers. The restaurant looked deserted, it’s not like she was jam packed helping other customers. Then at the end when we where paying she then let us know that their cash register wasn’t working and we would have to pay with card. What if we didn’t have our card? These are issues that should have been troubleshooted earlier. So we could have known how we were supposed to pay before we even sat down. This whole experience was utterly disappointing and a waste of time and stomach space.

Very nice people! I had the kalbi BBQ ribs (Korean style), and it very good, although it would be nice if they had kimchi (and yes, it’s mostly a sushi restaurant). However, the meat was marinated in a classic sauce that had too much vinegar, so the taste was not quite what it should be. That’s an easy adjustment to make, and I look forward to be a regular customer.

New management. Very friendly, good food, but they no longer offer sides with the main dishes any more. This was my favorite Korean style restaurant. Now it’s more of a Japanese Sushi place. looking for another Korean BBQ to get my kimchi, pickled turnip, etc, fix. It was the sides that put this restaurant above the others. Hopefully they will consider bringing the sides back.

Although this place isn’t your traditional Japanese only sushi joint, but it’s absolutely fantastic. If you like a place that has a revolving set of specials, this is the place for you. If you want a place that has good deals on beer during the week, this place is for you. The staff is mostly very friendly, but they can get pretty stressed out if the place gets too busy. One time they missed something, they apologized profusely then comped another item on the menu.

New ownership in place, they are working hard to get to more customers. The menu has changed so you are better off calling them till they update the website. The staff are very courteous and eager to help you. The sushi rolls are top notch with fresh fish & flavor packed options! An area for potential improvement – I ordered the Chicken Katsu curry, which I felt a bit underwhelming. I suspect they tweaked it assuming local tastes but I would recommend they stick to the currier version which is paler and less sweeter than the current one. The chicken itself was brilliant & with some Sriracha mixed into the Katsu curry they gave, tasted delightful! The miso soup is spot on & so is the side of rice. Additional recommendation to the kitchen: I would possibly lose the chopped green on the side, it was too raw as a veggie…may be a toss up with ponzu or rice vinegar + sugar, would have given a zing! Thanks Yama-san team. Wish you well!!

Had a spicy role that was a delightful balance of spicy and flavourful, a baked role that was sweet and savory, as well as baked muscles that were well paired with the cheese used, and bubbling Moscato that was refefreshing.

Not sure what happened with this place… Two rolls ordered on Door Dash, and both of them tasted waaaayyyy too fishy. The Halo Roll and the Citron Roll — one is tuna and one is salmon — both VERY fishy, definitely not fresh. The other food was good… Tempura platter and Gyoza. Called to inquire, and the voice mail picked up to say they were closed on Christmas Day. Hmmm, it’s November 2nd. They haven’t updated their after hours greeting for 10 months — that might be a clue.
