Food
There’s a variety in the menu and the food is great. We ordered about at least 6 skewers with Ramen. Ramen was good, forgot the name sorry. Clam skewer is small though, but good. Highball was nice and strong.

Service
Do not expect the servers to be like Applebee’s. They’re just there to take your order and deliver your food. That’s just how it is.

Atmosphere
It almost felt like I was in Japan. The vibe there is just like meeting your friends after a long day of work to drink and talk while eating current day price skewers.

Parking
There’s no parking lot.

Been here twice we went back cause we don’t have much good Yakitori options in the town. Food is good overall we had fried calamari and some Yakitoris. But I don’t like how servers hand me over the paying machine at my seat, very uncomfortable to tip as the server was looking at the machine while standing next to us. I wouldn’t mind if the service was good but 2/5 service

Yakitori 39 is rough around the edges, but that’s part of it’s charm. It does remind me of tiny local yakitori joints in Japan. The food is good, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is authentic. However, the place can get smoky at times, so beware if your lungs are sensitive. Also, the single-stall bathroom is clean but barely insulated from the elements. All in all, I’ve been here a couple of times and always enjoyed myself.

my partner is very into yakitori and we make a point to try different yakitori places when we come across them. we drove by yakitori 39 on the way downstate and knew we needed to make a stop. the food is really incredible, and very reasonably priced (about $4/skewer, and more for full plates and specials). the specials menu is long, the food arrives quickly, and the environment is really laid back – this is a proper izakaya.

This spot had been on my ‘want-to-go’ list for years, and we finally went last night.

We focused solely on yakitori, skipping sushi and ramen (easily found elsewhere), and paired it with Japanese shouchu on the rocks instead of beer or wine.

The yakitori was perfectly prepared, and we were glad to see Japanese chefs using traditional cooking methods, including smoking! Pro tip: don’t order all at once. Order yakitori in batches to enjoy it fresh and at the best temperature.

Ordering directly from the Japanese owner in Japanese made the experience even more special. He was so kind! We’ll definitely return and bring more friends next time!

We had too high expectations from the good reviews and got disappointed big time.. Food was ok but expensive for the quality & portion. The place was very dirty. Food drops on the floor, sticky table, dirty plates… Also we were not sure they had the same Sprite we knew. It tasted plain even after they gave us a new one. Lastly the servers were kind but did not understand the menu & availability. It felt like we were ordering something they didnt know..

For tonight, best was shisamo, ginko.
Seasonal special drink, sweet potato vodka. Preferred hot sake better pairing gusty night. And old faithful Asahi nama biru for ginkgo and shisamo.

Also tasty half eel. Negi small but sweet. Pork done perfectly as always.

39 (San Kyu) aka arigato.
Merry Xmas!

Asahi draft and hot sake done right.
Zenbu oishidesu. Especially beef tung and saba.

Try lobster yaki.

No lobster yaki. Instead grille beef also very good.

Momo, sunagimo, seseri, teba, kawa… all chicken regular and specialty great. Those $4~5 skewers add up. Pork belly, Gyutan also great.

Tried motsunabe. Nice for cold weather hearty soul food. Prefer yakimono.

Drinks.. Matcha beer, cold and hot sake reliable. Highball not so much. When soda was hot, readily replaced (gave another) with colder soda.

Service is great. Sacho disciplines/trains servers well. Authentic Japanese style.

Thank God this place in Teaneck. Otherwise, have to make a trip out to Manhattan.. Yakitori Totto, Torishin, Hagi…

Koreans can only flock… popularity of Matsuda-san from 544 (Osaka residents) craves for yakimono.

Arigato gozaimasu. KANPAI.

This is a unique restaurant, offering lots of skewers and small dishes. There’s a variety of items offered, pork, beef, chicken, seafood and vegetarian items. The menu is really really long, spread across 3 different ones, more than 8 pages.

The restaurant is pretty small and old inside. From what I know, they don’t allow walk-in, it’s only by reservation. The kitchen is right next to the tables, so you feel and smell the heat and smoke of the grill.

It terms of food, I had a mix experience, some items were really good, like chicken liver, heart, scallops, but few others were okay, like the Onigiri Rice Ball, fried baby octopus. The skewer sauce is really good, adds to the taste of the items.

The service is good. Items take a decent time to come out. So order more, as you are eating your current plates, if you plan to eat more.

Wish they had more space! Small yakitori restaurant that was packed when we went. Full variety of dishes, all very good. Some of the yakitori were a tad salty but overall a regular in one’s rotate if they’re craving beer and light Japanese dishes. Their roe mayo dip for the French fries was an interesting mix but paired well!

This place is a real hidden gem. The food was amazing. They had so many exquisite dishes such as fried gizzard, chicken skin, or chicken clavicle. Please take the chance to try those dishes, they sell out fast and are worth it.

The service was top notch. They paid attention the pace we were eating at and never felt rush but just right.

Update 10/15/23:
I came here with a friend and this place is still the best for Yakitori. We tried a couple new items on the menu, A5 wagyu ribeye and sea urchin tempura. The wagyu melted when we ate it and it was so good. The sea urchin tempura was delicious but I probably will prefer the sashimi dish. It was worth trying. The yuzu sake was so good too. I couldn’t even taste the alcohol and could have ordered 10 of these. I’m glad I revisited this amazing spot.
