A great spot for dumplings! Family revisited this restaurant for Chinese New Year after going in June of 2025 and thoroughly enjoying the experience then. On this visit, we ordered the chinese broccoli, chicken chow fun, homestyle tofu, and pork and leek dumplings. While the chinese broccoli had the most authentic flavor, the dumplings and the tofu were the stars of the show! The former had a great bouncy texture, and tasted as though hand made in house. The latter was flavorful, balanced, with a hint of spice — but pairing with rice is essential! The noodles unfortunately fell on the blander side, and were a bit oily. For the price, maybe consider other options!
Overall, the service is understanding and patient, the food is very good depending on what you order, and the atmosphere is 5/5. Would recommend!

I think the business model of a Chinese restaurant in a sports bar works well in Xin Ding. Although I wouldn’t call Chinese food “bar or party food,” the atmosphere at this restaurant is somewhat festive. It clearly establishes itself as a place of jolly gathering, unlike most Chinese restaurants that usually present the pitch of a family dining setup. The food was meant to be shared, however, as they only come in family size portions. I had 9 xiaolongbao with a plate of veggie noodles — I finished the food because that was the only meal I had that day. I was told there was simply no half dozen xiaolongbao. I think the food tastes fair, as pretty authentic Chinese but with a touch of the typical Chinese American. If I were to have friends with me in Portland I would certainly revisit this restaurant.

The establishment seems very lowkey. The bartender was our waitress but unfortunately did not check in us often. Also the other employees who delivered our food and refilled our waters were a bit standoffish. I needed sauce but since they practically ran off as soon as the fish left their hands. Unfortunately they were also not able to put Thursday Night Football on their tv and had to watch it on my phone. No big deal since it’s not a sports bar per se but still. The food was good. We got shrimp and pork dumplings, braised beef soup, combination fried rice, and fried fish. Would come back for dumplings only. Overall good.

First timer here in Oregon from Houston, Texas and wanted to try a dumpling place and this establishment didn’t disappoint. The place was very lowkey. I ordered the pork soup dumplings, shrimp fried rice, and honey walnut shrimp and it was SO delicious! I wish I lived here because I will be craving the honey walnut shrimp when I go back. Definitely recommend!

Thankfully, this restaurant is helping to revive Portland’s old town. The no-nonsense decor lets the dishes speak for themselves. Brightly steamed broccoli, steaming dumplings, and crispy chicken add ambiance. They have a wide selection of beers on tap along with a full bar.
Between the two of us we had the chow fun noodles, eggplant and green beans, and green onion pancake. This left us dinner for two more nights.

I recommend the potstickers and the garlic green beans. The rest was not our preferred taste. The staff were helpful and quick. I recommend this restaurant for large parties (5-8) to singles. There is a bar and large TVs that play sports games. A few minor cleaning issues, spilled food left under my table. But other that that the large space is nice.

Warm open atmosphere even for large groups. Crab and pork bao dumplings are wonderful! Really happy with my Kung pao great flavor and generous with peanuts is a must! Everything was great except the special porks ribs with garlic was underwhelming.

We ordered beef chow fun, garlic spare ribs, and beef rolls. Everything looked normal, but the flavors were really mild. I guess they’ve adjusted the recipes for a more neutralized taste.

As someone who’s traveled to China multiple times to multiple cities, I can say these are authentic flavors and dishes. Must order #1, Chongqing Chicken. Yes it’s spicy, yes your mouth is getting numb, and no you are not having an allergic reaction. That’s just the real Szechuan peppercorns doing the magic they do. Must order #2 Pork Wonton in Chili Oil. Do yourself a favor and get a side of the chili oil for an extra $2. You’ll find yourself dipping everything in it because it’s that good. Last but not least, Garlic Green Beans. A staple of better Chinese restaurants, these Green Beans are crispy and swimming in butter & garlic heaven.

Came here for a post dinner snack – I wasn’t hungry but I was in the area and heard about this place so I had to try it. I was immediately seated and the waiter recommended the pork and shrimp soup dumplings, which I ordered.
They were delicious. I can’t wait to come back to try more.
