Stayed up late and made a reservation a month in advance for my hubby‘s birthday and it was well worth it. Wright’s has a romantic & moody vibe, perfect for a date night. We started off with the crab cake which was by far the most delectable bite we had. An absolute must have! For our entrees, we chose the potato-crusted halibut and 14oz New York strip. The halibut was delicate in flavor, but the lemon beurre blanc sauce packed richness. Unfortunately the NY strip was disappointing. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare, however the steak & crust itself was dry & tough. We would recommend future guests just stick with the seafood entree options, as they were absolutely delicious. The onions rings were good as is, but the tavern aioli made them great. The service we received was impeccable. Overall, we still had a 5 star experience at Wright’s and will be back!

The experience at Wrights is unlike anything currently avail in the St. Louis area! The atmosphere is dim and moody, the service is impeccable, but the thing that stands out above all else is the food. Wow. The food! Each and every plate is thoughtfully prepared and presented. The flavors and textures combine favorite Midwest ingredients with sophisticated elevation. Highly recommend, if you can get a reservation!?

Exceptional.! Beautiful restaurant. The food was 10/10. Probably the best steak I’ve ever had. Our server was amazing. Can’t wait to dine here again.!

A wonderful dinner with impeccable service and delicious food in an intimate setting. We loved the oysters and baked crab cake to start. Fries were out of this world and the crust on the roasted chicken entree was the highlight of our meal. Creme Brûlée to finish had a similar crust and we cannot recommend it enough.
Our second visit was even better than the first. Amazing oysters again, perfectly cooked steak and salmon. You can’t go wrong with anything here.

This is truly a hidden gem. Parking is easy and the building is small and unassuming. All the food is delicious and the cocktails are well-made. I was surprised to even see giardiniera on the menu. The waiter was awesome and chatted with us throughout the night. I will definitely be back!

My wife and I just left from our 5 o’clock reservation, after 12 months of trying to get a reservation at an early hour, which is our preference. Service was incredible…spot on! Filet mignon, definitely top 3 if not #1. Wedge salad ~ my wife makes the best salads on the planet. Right up there. Sourdough bread warm and perfectly crusted with an amazing butter/olive oil combo. Etc etc etc. We loved it!

This isn’t just a great place to order a steak. There are plenty of those in St. Louis. Wright’s Tavern is a fantastic dining experience. From beginning to end, I was so pleased with everything. I will happily come back. Pending I get a good reservation time again.

Wright’s Tavern is a great, intimate date night spot in Clayton. There are only a few tables inside, so it’s not too loud and the service is prompt. The wine selection is great, and cocktails are equally great. The crab cake is our favorite appetizer. I love the Tavern Burger, Canestri Pasta and the Swordfish, and I cannot wait to try more. The Pommes Frites are a must (I could eat this by itself). Lastly, if you went to Wright’s and did not get the Tavern Hot Fudge Sunday, you have made a critical error. Just great food and great atmosphere!

Went on a Wednesday night and it was packed—definitely make a reservation. You might get lucky with a seat at the bar, but I wouldn’t count on it. They really use every bit of space, so it feels a little tight, and the noise level is higher than you’d expect for a high-end spot.
The service was excellent—attentive, polished, and detail-oriented. They kept our bottle chilled on ice and refilled glasses right on time. Still, the overall ambiance didn’t quite match that level of refinement. The space feels packed and a bit loud, so while the staff delivers fine-dining service, the setting leans more energetic and bustling than elegant.
Cocktails were great and well-made. I started with the shrimp cocktail—good, fresh, but nothing to rave about. The Caesar salad was solid, and as you’d expect at a place like this, anchovies are an option—though our server didn’t seem aware of that at first. I had the much-talked-about burger; cooked perfectly to temperature and you could taste the quality of the meat, but it leaned a bit dry overall—maybe could use a touch of sauce for balance. Fries were excellent, crispy, and disappeared quickly from the table.
For dessert, we shared the sundae, which the server said was “big enough to share.” That was an understatement—you could easily split it among six people. Generous ice cream, plenty of toppings, and a fun way to end the meal.
I would go back to try other things, but probably not until it’s easier to get a reservation. Not sure it’s worth the hassle.

The star qualities here are truly the ambiance and the bread service. Whipped butter with olive oil, salt and pepper with crunchy toasted bread! I ascended.
Dim lighting, glowing bar, and paper you can draw on = upscale but welcoming.
Next favorite would be the house made pasta in a spicy vodka sauce! Wow!
The crab cake was outshined by the sauce it was served in. That sauce is so so good, but it drowns out the crab in the crab cake.
Finally the Caesar salad and the steak frites were both yummy, but nothing special.
I did have crazy heart burn the next day, but when you luxuriate in this many fats and acids, that’s the name of the game.
Overall, i’d highly recommend. It just feels like that perfect date night out.
