I was about to give 3 Stars to this place, but changed it to 2 based on the Management’s response to an honest review from another member from our dinner party.

Just to give a Background. We had a Dinner reservation at this place but they were Closed when we arrived and never bothered to let us know. When we called later, they told we can make another reservation and they will try to make up for it. So we did make another reservation for a Tuesday. The restaurant is now Closed on Tuesdays, but the Manager told it would be no issue to have us over.

They offered us 3 free appetizers (didn’t ask us what we wanted, just gave 3 plates of Wings with the most sugary sauce I have ever tasted but it’s free so we didn’t complain about it). Only 1 other table was there and the Manager/Owner spent all the time over there talking quite loud and mostly ignoring our Table (again not a big deal but not very professional)

Pork Chops and Fried Chicken tasted good but other dishes were average or bad. Fish (3 different orders and choices) was only seasoned on one side, Chicken that came with Waffles was dry as a cardboard (returned), 1 order was wrong and had to wait 20 minutes for the right now, and a Snapper dish was also not cooked as described (returned).

Even after asking multiple times, the Manager never came over to our Table to address us.

When my friend posted a review about this, the responded with a rude message making it seem as though we insisted on dining when they were Closed (they could have simply asked us to reserve on a different day), gave us free appetizers out of goodness of their heart (they were just trying to make up for a previous mistake), and blaming us of having poor attitudes. Not taking responsibility for one’s actions is the worst in my book, so that warrants a bad review.

Our waiter was attentive and polite, and some of the Food did taste good, so 2 Stars it is.

When a Restaurant Management says, “Fast-food places are for eating, but they sell a Dining Experience”, just shows how much they care about giving good food. Nice Ambience with Bad Food, doesn’t make a Great Dining Experience..!

The first time I was supposed to come here was with my girls group and my friend made a reservation. When we arrived the place was closed and she got no notice. We had to find another place nearby. We decided to give this place another chance.

When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and found my party. I sat and the decor of the place was very nice. The owner was there and our server was Rahmere. Rahmere was very nice and attentive. So to make up for the mishap the owner sent over wings which was nice. They also gave each table cornbread and that was tasty. The establishment is byob but there is a $10 cork fee fyi so bring your own cork screw. I wanted the escovich snapper for my entrée and that’s what I ordered.

While we waited some ladies ordered the collard green dip and chips. When it came out the dip looked more like queso and they said that’s what they said it tasted like. After a while the entrées started to come out and they had to send back one of the girl’s entrées because it was wrong so she waited another 20 minutes or so. My snapper didn’t look too good. There was not a lot of fish and I didn’t like the taste. I sent it back and didn’t end up getting anything. The server said the owner would come over to talk to me but he was too busy at the back table enjoying his time with what seems like his family. So I never spoke to him before I left to get something else to eat. I didn’t have to pay but this experience was not a good one for me.

Great take-out experience from start to finish! The woman who took my order was very courteous and repeated the order back to me to ensure it’s accuracy, which I always appreciate. My husband picked up the food when they said it’d be ready and it arrived home still hot. Everything tasted amazing! My husband and I both got the fried chicken, while our friends got the meatloaf and fried flounder. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy. The potato salad wasn’t swimming in mayo, which I prefer, and had a slightly vinegar taste I loved. My husband had the mac & cheese and mashed potatoes, which he really enjoyed. Would definitely recommend giving them a try!

The name of the restaurant is fitting both for the restaurant and the individual that it’s named after (I’m assuming). We have both dined in and taken out and always a fine home cooked meal. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The food was very good but that 24% surcharge sent us for a loop! And it was strange because we were the only people in the restaurant. Edit: Let me clarify, I’m not equating the surcharge with the restaurant being empty. My wording was misleading. The lack of others in the restaurant is a separate comment from the surcharge.

My friends and I were eager to try this place. The food was delicious, especially the honey cornbread. The chicken, fish and shrimp was seasoned to perfection. I loved it. The macaroni & cheese was good, the collard greens needed a little bit more seasoning for my taste, but everything was delicious. Including the banana pudding we took to go. it’s BYOB for future reference. We drank the uptown which was nice and sweet, it was delicious as well. I’m rating the restaurant a 2 because one of the owners said something disrespectful to me before we left. I know he was playing and I laughed it off at the time but after I got home I thought about it more, I realized he had some nerve!!! He was very disrespectful and unprofessional. I won’t be going back anytime soon.

Friendly and attentive service and really awesome food. The wings were perfect, the jerk shrimp was delicious and spicy. The ribs were a generous portion and fell right off the bone and had great flavor. Definitely a hidden gem to find this kind of cuisine right in Caldwell – a mix of Caribbean, Southern comfort, and BBQ all in one place. Complimentary corn muffins to start off the meal also and they were amazing. Highly recommend Wright Kind of Soul, you won’t be disappointed!

Initially I was hesitate about this restaurant, because other “soul food” restaurants are not worth coming back. UNTIL “Wright Kind of Soul” was recommended to me and my family. Everything we ordered thus far is excellent, but the red snapper. The flavor is nice but not enough meat. Unfortunately I won’t order red snapper again. Cornbread is great with or without the syrup or honey not sure which is used. Smothered turkey wings, turkey chops, sticky wings, spicy wings, mac & cheese, candied yams, and peach cobbler (only thing I think the peaches can be cooked longer and more dough added). Hope more cake desserts to come on the menu. Ambience is quaint and it is very clean, bathroom is sanitized which is a plus. I can go on and on about their good food. Just know my family/friends will continue to patronize them. Keep up the heart and soul into the food.

What an experience! The staff was outstanding and the food was delicious!!! Since it was Mother’s Day, they only offered buffet style dining! Everything was well seasoned and delicious! My Mom loved the ambiance and the food so much that she’s requesting that we give her a birthday party there! Keisha was as nice in person as she was over the phone. She felt like part of our family! We also had a young man helping us who was amazing as well! I can’t wait to go back!

I went here this past weekend. Heard good things about the place. Ordered the fish dish and the oxtails. Came with rice. The rice was so salty we couldn’t eat it. It tasted like pure salt. Spoke to the waiter and asked if we can get something else besides the rice he said let me check with manager. Waiter came back and said the manager said no, they can replace with more rice. We said fine (I didn’t like that cause what happened to making your customers happy). We got the new rice and it wasn’t cooked fully. Hard ! So we told the waiter. Meanwhile our main dishes are cold already. I asked for the manager. I explained the situation and he replied that the waiter took the undercooked rice out the pot without it being done. Ridiculous. Anyways I told the manager we wanted it replaced with potato salad and greens which he did but why didn’t he do that in the first place. He said he would of replaced it if we asked. So who lied. I doubt it was the waiter. It left a bad taste in my mouth. When I complained about the rice the immediate response should of been what other side can I get you. Besides the fact the side comes in a very small bowl and if you get two or three spoon fulls from it you’re good. It’s a small small side dish and the owner made it a big issue and lied.
