Woodside Deli is easily one of the best deli spots I’ve been to. The selection of imported Italian goods is on another level you can tell they really care about quality and authenticity. From the cured meats to the specialty pantry items, everything feels thoughtfully curated.

And the food? Straight fire. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you’re craving a legit deli experience. If you’re into authentic Italian ingredients or just want an incredible sandwich, this place absolutely delivers.

I hate that I need to write a bad review for this place, but I gave the new owners two opportunities to make a bad situation right and in the end, they pretty much failed to do that.

Here’s how it went: my wife got me my favorite Godfather sandwich for my birthday 10 days ago, and upon first bite, I spit out a white plastic bread bag tie. Pretty disgusting, but I know mistakes happen. I gave that a pass and kept eating because I was super hungry. But before I could even finish the first half of the sandwich I started reeling a long human hair out of my mouth!

I spit everything out, rinsed with mouthwash, threw the second half of the sandwich in the trash and immediately called to speak with the owner or manager.

The owner I spoke with was apologetic, said he’d never heard a worse story regarding a sandwich and offered to reverse the online charge ($23.80) the next day, as there was some reason he couldn’t do it in that moment. He even said he’d write himself a note to remind himself to do it. Well, of course that never happened.

A little over a week later (today), I went into the deli to discuss this in person and spoke with another owner (the first guy’s brother), who was less apologetic, but he said he would do the refund and make me a replacement sandwich.

I waited around while the owner finished some things, and once we got to the register, he refused to refund the sales tax, the pop menu transaction fee and the $3.80 tip we left – only the pre-tax price of the sandwich ($19). I told him I didn’t think this was right and that we shouldn’t have to pay for any part of that disgusting contaminated sandwich, but he told me the rest of that charge didn’t go to them and if I wanted that back I’d have to take it up with Gavin Newsom. He handed me the $19 cash and said “have a good day.”

I walked out kinda pissed, like wow, this place totally sucks now. I got halfway to my car and realized I didn’t even get my replacement sandwich. So I went back in there and told the guy you know what, I’ll take that free sandwich too. I didn’t really want it, but figured what the heck, if my refund is going to be shy $4.80, I might as well take the sandwich. In retrospect, I should have just left.

So yeah, I got the free sandwich, but of course this whole experience thoroughly killed my appetite for anything coming out of that place, so it’s going to sit in the fridge for now and probably end up in the trash like the first one.

Sadly, I’m done with Woodside Deli. I won’t set foot in there again. It’s the end of an era for me. And I’ll be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

The new owners are amazing!!! I talked with John for a few minutes when I was ordering and he was extremely friendly and told me about their story. I ordered The Nino and the sandwich was huge!! I could only eat half despite how great the sandwich was. They use very fresh ingredients and you can really taste it. I was checked out Jacob who was delightful and friendly. Overall, I would 100% recommend this place to family and friends. Check this place out!!

Great sandwiches and staff! Heard they had new owners and place looks great (super clean & organized) & food was delicious. Split the Godmother with my husband and I could barely finish my half. My son took half of his Nino sandwich home to eat later. They didn’t skimp on the fillings and the bread was authentic sourdough. Wish I had room for dessert because those Italian cookies were calling my name! Will definitely be back to try another sandwich (maybe the Tri-tip) and will try to save room for those cookies!

The Morton club sandwich was super delicious and I absolutely would order again! My daughter ordered a balsamic artichoke sandwich that we agreed wasn’t nearly as good.

One of the best sandwich shops I have ever been to, and easily one of the best in Redwood City. The staff are always friendly with fast service. As well as sandwiches they sell a variety of other things making it a great stop for lunch and a snack.
